ParticipantCertainly fun to watch this year.
If they are going to go run and gun (because they are not trying to copy Carolina, nor should they), there’s a warm body named Adam Boqvist they could get for peanuts. Defensive liability at times, but great offensive upside. Playing in the Swiss league, but I’m sure he has an opt-out clause until December.

ParticipantThese deserve-o-meter losses are going to mess us up
The NHL is very much a copy cat league and if the Leafs are going to copy the current Cup champs, they are playing the complete opposite of the Carolina style of hockey.
Their PK was fantastic. They even scored on the PP. But the reality is, if the Leafs play at 5v5 like they did vs. Colorado every game, they’re going to lose a lot more games than they win.
Especially when the games matter, if they were so lucky to make the playoffs.
I don’t see any evidence that the Leafs are trying to copy Carolina. Chayka was gifted a high skill player in the draft to go along with 34 and 88. He added another with Marchenko. That gives him the nucleus of a pretty potent top 6.
The D needs work and I expect an addition there. In the meantime I’ll take the didn’t-deserve-to-win wins and 3 points out of four on a pretty tough road trip where some here expected them to get steamrolled.
Besides, after last year’s unwatchable play it’s nice to see some goodish hockey. Cheap thrills are still thrilling

ParticipantGame 6: Leafs 6 Avs 3 A very good road victory against an elite team. No matter what happens in Utah, the Leafs are guaranteed at least a .500 road trip. Bob looked good in the net tonight. Special teams were a great factor. A sneaky little fact about tonight’s game: The two young forwards each picked up another point. Matthews and Nylander were carrying the mail. It’s been two years since we’ve seen this from Nylander and Matthews. The defense held, although they were outshot. With the Atlantic teams having uneven nights, the Leafs are holding on to a playoff spot. Getting this West Coast trip out of the way will help them down the stretch. All in all, the road trip looks like a success. Let’s hope that they don’t lay an egg in their first game back from the West.
