He’s one of the few guys whose effort I can’t fault on a night to night basis. He’s pretty steady, was maybe overpaid on his last contract, but is underpaid now.

A lot of people seem to forget he got caught in the overpaid years most long term contracts have due to the cap lock down due to Covid. If that didn’t happen by the end of his contract the cap would have been significantly higher and he wouldn’t have seemed as overpaid at all, I mean come on, he’s still a PPG guy ffs.

So is he a leaf? Yup. He gave them a big time discount because of what happened with his last contract. Sure he has a minor NTC of 5 teams on the last two years but I’m willing to bet that’s not for him to go to a competitor but if he sees that he’s a burden and the leafs need the cap space. He’ll just choose some quiet little place where he won’t get marketed.

I think the whole idea behind letting Marner walk was to change the makeup of the team and hopefully add more of the elements you describe.
Unfortunately, so far it looks like the only effect is to reduce the talent level significantly, with no real positive changes to how they play. The injuries don’t help, but the past decade or so they haven’t worked hard enough or been consistent enough even with everyone healthy. The frustrating part is that none of their problems are new.

Actually I disagree, the leafs are bigger and slower with the hope of being far more direct and physical. Hasn’t happened.

The idea is far more north south than before including a hard drive to the net.

    Well, it’s supposed to anyways.

Agreed about the injuries tho, hard to get a newer style into place when you just can’t get the roster into place.

Yup. They clearly are not buying in.

Well, let’s hope the d men get back soon, line 3 doesn’t get touched, Nylander isn’t too hurt, and the rest of the team realizes that if they want to win under Berube they ALL need to play like line 3 did.

Stop trying to look pretty and talented, do a hard forecheck, a hard backcheck, and shoot the puck on net lots. If they’re doing their jobs correctly there should always be someone there to bang home rebounds.

It’s pretty basic, perform playoff hockey all season long, and as much as I hate to say it but if they’re unwilling to do it that just tells me they won’t be anything special in the post season. Do they have the talent? Yes. The willingness? Too early in the season to know for sure.

    Well, that’s gotta sting. #Sabres

Never really paid much attention to the Leafs, but since the Marner trade I’m now interested to see how it plays out with Toronto, and with Vegas.

Ugly game, but losing both Rielly and Tanev, their two best D men, in the same game while the coach was rebuilding the lines I wasn’t overly surprised to see that only one thing truly looked decent and that was line 3.

At least those 3 buy into Berube’s game.

I was gonna say the jays being in the World Series must effect the leafs but I double checked and yeah, 93-94 is when they started 10-0 so nope, the jays being successful isn’t the problem lol

it seems like this site is undergoing some kind a maintenance as there is no more edit link for your post.

Seems to flip back and forth for me

Meh, not like anything I say makes sense anyways 😀

Actually going to a Leaf never even crosses my mind. It’s absolutely not worth it what it costs all in. I could buy a pretty nice Fender Stratocaster for what they want for a couple tickets to a Tuesday night game vs. San Jose in early December. Screw that.

I’m a bassist so it’s a P bass I’d get (my favs, even had a 76’ jazz once and I still went back to the P bass) but I totally agree 👍
