Wow, this is a fun team to watch! A quicker turnaround from a rebuild than most teams I’ve seen. Well done to Armstrong and crew for that.

Surprising start for the geriatric Penguins, Fly boys will need a strong performance tonight, easy to get up for the Penguins though.

Never been a fan of this kid, but he’s playing well so far for the team.

Obviously for the best. Hopefully he can work on his offensive game down there.

He obviously wasn’t working on it in the NHL being benched or playing on the 4th line. Shame on the Flyers for that.

The article makes it sound like the Flyers are helpless bystanders in all of this. It was DB’s decision to sign him to a professional contract immediately which is why he can’t play in college and if he’s not good enough to play in the NHL, the rest doesn’t matter.

Poor decision making all around. He knew the rules when he drafted Jett, he knew the rules when he signed Jett. If you want to lament that Jett can’t play in the AHL, then shame on DB for knowingly drafting a player ineligible to play in the AHL for his first 2 years.

It was his decision to let this kid embarrass himself on the ice last year and to basically waste a month of the kid’s time again this year. If he doesn’t like his choices he should’ve drafted someone else.

Too much drama in here associated with him and the Flyers. They gave him another chance to showcase himself and it didn’t work out, there’s also nothing wrong with going back and playing Junior at 19 years old, he just turned 19 August 21st. Last season he only played 46 games in Junior, 9 in the AHL and 4 in the NHL, go down and play a lot of minutes and get better. I don’t know what the big deal is from a fan perspective, this is still a very young kid.

Early game today against an Islander team that’s won four in a row. Should be a good test for the boys. GO FLYERS GO!!!

    Well, that’s gotta sting. #Sabres

Never really paid much attention to the Leafs, but since the Marner trade I’m now interested to see how it plays out with Toronto, and with Vegas.

    From kurz today:

Still, Michkov’s start was concerning. He simply didn’t arrive in camp in good enough shape, something that Tocchet has overtly suggested a few times. Perhaps that was partly because of the ankle injury that was conveniently revealed earlier this month after the season began, but Tocchet has also indicated that Michkov will have to do a better job of taking care of himself off the ice as he moves along in his career.

“He’s (20) years old. It’s about what am I eating? How is he recovering?” Tocchet said on Oct. 15. “When you have a young player, you almost have to tell them sometimes, you’ve got to recover here. What are you eating after games? Things like that. I think that will help him in the long run. … We have to teach him certain things like that.”

    — is the smear campaign starting?

Michkov looks fat and out of shape, I think an intervention is warranted. 🙂

This kid should be back in junior, it’ll be a wasted year for him down there but it’s better to work on his offense in junior than flail away with the Flyers playing 8 minutes a night.

Not a lot of action in here, understandably, given the Sabres constant poor situation. When will the hammer finally come down on management?

Marner had more career playoff points than Tavares, Matthews and Nylander. Marner would play against Florida’s #1 line and keep them in check. He kills penalties. He ran the PP (which has not turned to shit). He contributed to 3 GWGs vs Florida. He was perfectly fine being one of the main, core guys with big responsibility. The problem was the garbage that filled the rest of the roster. The Leafs refused to get rid of the garbage like Tavares, Rielly, Jarnkrok, Kampf etc. and refused to pay and retain an elite, two-way player then elected to replace him with 3rd and 4th liners. It won’t end well for the Leafs as this team is worse and won’t be getting better.

He’s probably gonna win a cup, and win the Conn Smythe, in Vegas his first year and rub Leafs fans and management’s noses in it so bad! 😂

Marner will be a good/important player on a team where all the focus isn’t on a group of four players to sink or die with. Vegas epitomizes a deep, balanced, big, heavy, experienced, team where everyone is a contributor and their systems play is more important than being carried by a small group of players. Just my outside opinion looking in.

Listen I will happily give Marner the credit he deserves. He’s a fantastic passer, he’s great defensively, and he reads the ice really really well. I live in London so I remember him in the OHL playing for The Knights. His speed and shot are decent but not great but nothing to frown against either. The only thing I never really liked about him is that he emotionally broke down routinely. So for him I think not playing hockey in southern Ontario is the best move since it’s non stop attention from the media and fanbase here. Look at the broadcast this past Saturday night, the next game had started yet they still were focused on the leafs drama during the intermissions, it’s absurd. Some players have no interest to play for a Canadian team, especially Toronto, for this kind of reason.

I mean look at this. If Marner was bumped down to the second line in Toronto the media and fanbase would explode even if it was a perfect fit (his production has shot up since it has happened) whereas in Vegas they speak positively about it. Some players just don’t have the mental ability to handle the crazy Toronto atmosphere and wouldn’t be shocked if Marner is one of them.

Be careful saying this for instance… congrats to JT for becoming just the 4th player in history to get to 500P for 2 different teams however it’s a pretty safe bet Marner is going to make that list now too. (Waits for arguments against that point of view lol)

Yeah, I fully get the intense media in Toronto when it comes to the Leafs. If you’re mentally weak at all, it’ll become an issue for you. My only counterpoint is, if the team was better constructed with depth and talent, as in not so top heavy, I don’t think the attention would be there, all on one player. Marner had 383 points in 302 games over the past four seasons, he also had 38 points in 38 playoff games, so he was earning his money. But he’s more of a complimentary player, he’s not gonna drive the bus in the playoffs, he’s gonna matter, but he’s not that type of guy to drive the bus all by himself, at least in my opinion, that’s on Leafs management for those expectations.

For years I’ve heard Shanny didn’t build a deep enough team for the playoffs, they’re a fun dynamic offensive team in the regular season, but they were never going to find success in the playoffs with their top heavy roster and their style of play. And that pretty much played out over the past seven years, where they got past the 1st round once. On top of that, I don’t think they’re better this year than they were last year, which is a problem, for y’all.

On another site I started chatting on a bit I saw a knights fan mention how he likes Marner because he’s a lot like Marchessault, the position that Marner has essentially taken over which has been a gap since Marchessault left for Nashville. I didn’t say anything because why would I but I looked some stuff up, yup, Marner is 0.3PPG more (averaging about an extra 25P) but he also costs $6.5 million more a year lol.

I get it now though, Marchessault is essentially JT’s age but it still made me smile. Vegas fans are already associating Marner to a 2nd line winger that cost half his price, they don’t do it out of anger, but they don’t think much of his game other than his offensive skill set.

Marner will be a good/important player on a team where all the focus isn’t on a group of four players to sink or die with. Vegas epitomizes a deep, balanced, big, heavy, experienced, team where everyone is a contributor and their systems play is more important than being carried by a small group of players. great player. bland boring coach with a losing record.

what’s his track record with russian players?

Given the circumstances of the situations he’s agreed to step into, coaching wise, I think he’s done ok. Players seemingly love to play for him. Like most things in life, I’m sure he’s a better coach today than he was when he first started, that’s just a natural evolution for a person and a coach.

I still maintain, the absence of Tortorella has a lot to do with the uptick in the players GAF, and you’re seeing that in their play.
