ParticipantIt’s kind of crazy that Jett has had 2 separate 10 game tryouts and has yet to come close to playing 10 TOTAL games. Spending more time with the fans watching the games than actually being dressed. It just speaks as to how desperate DB has been for a “win” regarding Jett. A player who they endlessly hyped after his draft and promoting him being the “youngest player in history to make the team”. Unfortunately when he was actually on the ice they couldn’t get him off of it fast enough.
Look for him to go through the same charade next year before finally being able to send him to the AHL.

ParticipantThe base numbers are a little concerning. Across 39 games, he has just four goals and 18 assists for 22 points. That’s an eight-goal, 46-point pace over a full season whilst playing north of 20 minutes each night.
To put that in perspective, among forwards with at least 500 minutes of ice time in this span, his point-scoring rate ranks in the 23rd percentile. His goal-scoring rate is in the 3rd percentile. In other words, that’s essentially fourth-line offensive production.
It gets worse. At 5-on-5 play, he has been outscored 50–34. While that can be partially blamed on an unsustainably low PDO (sum of save and shooting percentage; a luck-based metric), he hasn’t been capable of driving a line. When separated from Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov, he’s been outscored 18–3 with an anemic 39.79% expected goal share.

Participantgood to see ND back in the lineup. His calm presence is underrated. you can bet Crosby wont be taking any runs at any flyers players.
Tocchet’s quote makes my head hurt.
“He’s one guy that you should be asking about for ice time. He needs to get out there more.”
The guy who says Greb needs to play more is the guy who took him out of the lineup.

ParticipantZegras is also a +5. The myth that he’s not good defensively is hopefully dying.

It’s not a myth and never was a myth. Has he improved? Probably, but he’s also not playing center, which has increased responsibilities, this year.
The only players on the team with a negative plus/minus are the 4th line and Drysdale. Hell Dvorak who was a career -60 coming into the season is +5. They are receiving some exceptional even strength goaltending by Vlader and it’s making everyone look good. Props to Vlader, a career sub .900 keeper, for starting off hot with .932.
Anyway, he is off to a good start and hopefully the Flyers can flip him for a center.

ParticipantObviously for the best. Hopefully he can work on his offensive game down there.
He obviously wasn’t working on it in the NHL being benched or playing on the 4th line. Shame on the Flyers for that.
The article makes it sound like the Flyers are helpless bystanders in all of this. It was DB’s decision to sign him to a professional contract immediately which is why he can’t play in college and if he’s not good enough to play in the NHL, the rest doesn’t matter.
Poor decision making all around. He knew the rules when he drafted Jett, he knew the rules when he signed Jett. If you want to lament that Jett can’t play in the AHL, then shame on DB for knowingly drafting a player ineligible to play in the AHL for his first 2 years.
It was his decision to let this kid embarrass himself on the ice last year and to basically waste a month of the kid’s time again this year. If he doesn’t like his choices he should’ve drafted someone else.

ParticipantRemind me why Jett is on the team? To help him develop offensively? Too good for the OHL? Lol
I can’t believe i’m saying this as Torts loves his vets also but Jett played significantly more under Torts last year than Tocchet this year.
If anyone actually believed the crap they were spewing Jett would be centering a scoring line instead of eating popcorn and watching the game like the rest of us. Maybe DB is up there with him just like he was with Torts?
The only reason he is on the Flyers is for PR reasons, not for hockey reasons.

ParticipantFlyers’ Ristolainen, Bonk out for at least 5 more weeks, according to report
According to The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz, both defensemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Oliver Bonk are approximately five to six weeks away from being back in game action. Kurz also adds that that is the timeline as long as there are no setbacks to either blueliner’s recovery.
This just keeps getting wierder and wierder. Bonk’s timeline went from day to day, to week to week, to now month to month? The way this is going we may be attending their funerals before the end of the season.
There are so many parallels as to how the medical staff handled the Ryan Ellis situation early on.

Participantthey tried their best. it was a trap game.
The only interesting thing for me is to see how they handle MM going forward. The coach has no answers so far.
as far as the jett not so sure it is even about optics. I genuinely think they believe he is nhl ready and can help the team.
according to boucher, the ass kissing homer, JD is playing great hockey
I’d like to have some of whatever they are smoking if that’s the case. What about his usage or play indicates that he can help the team or even that he’s taking any steps forward in his offensive game from the press box. They have made excuses and given him glowing reviews ever since he was drafted.
My vote is still optics because I refuse to believe they hired a GM even dumber than Chuck Fletcher. While pride and optics aren’t great being dumb is not fixable.
“We have to take into consideration his age and his development and what’s most important for us,” he said. “In three, five, seven years from now, how can we create the best Luchanko? Those are all things that we’re constantly thinking about and discussing and debating.
“It’s not just the points. Obviously, points are important because they help you win when you score goals and set up plays… but it’s the overall game we’re going to be looking at, just like we did in training camp. [We’re going to] evaluate the full spectrum.”
..
“We’re gonna let the kid play and have conversations as we’re playing the games and see where it goes from there.“Flyers_01
ParticipantHow does sitting yet another game, or when he does play, playing the 4th line, help Jett Luchanko’s development? Briere’s galaxy brain pick 2 years ago who, for some unexplainable reason, has made the team 2 years in a row and not looked like an NHL player at any point. Yet they resist every effort to let him develop in a lower league. They say he’s too good for OHL, yet he’s never dominated in that league. It’s not his fault they say, trust us. He needed to make the team to develop his offensive skills and yet he has only played, when they can even find room to play him, on the 4th line with a grand total of 1 SOG. How is any of this helping Luchanko develop offensively? It’s much better for him to not play in the NHL, not to be in offensive situations than it is to play 1st line minutes, 1st PP, in the OHL because apparently ice time is overrated. The bench is where you hone your skills.
Maybe the very image conscious DB just didn’t want it to look his signature pick was regressing by not making the team this year even though his play last year in the NHL made you question the coach and the GM’s evaluation.
No matter the reason, refusing to send this kid back and to play him on the 4th line, when he plays, is pride or stupidity. He’s going to get sent back at some point with a stupid platitude about how his time in the NHL helped him and it was the right move. So stupid.

Risto pushed back another month, for those actually looking forward to him returning.
The way these updates keep coming in for Bonk and Risto, we may not see either this year.

ParticipantThis kid should be back in junior, it’ll be a wasted year for him down there but it’s better to work on his offense in junior than flail away with the Flyers playing 8 minutes a night.
I don’t think it would be a wasted year simply because he has never dominated at that level. Many excuses have been due to the fact that he hasn’t dominated basically blaming the team and giving him a free pass. I would like him to show us he is to good for the league.
The other part of that is he could be playing in College with Martone if DB hadn’t rushed to sign him to a contract all so he could be the NHL equivalent of a purse dog. Unfortunately, when DB showed Jett to all his friends he didn’t perform as expected and went back into the purse. Now DB is stuck, if Jett didn’t make the team this year, then it would reflect negatively on DB and if there’s anything we know about this front office is that they are very very image conscious.

ParticipantSpeaking with a team source Monday morning, the Flyers are considering sending Luchanko to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms on a conditioning stint. While it hasn’t been confirmed to me, it appears returning him to the OHL’s Guelph Storm is an option the Flyers are delaying as long as possible.
..
Luchanko has built up somewhat of a reputation as a player who is reluctant to shoot the puck; said reputation has clearly spilled into the Flyers’ front office.Flyers_01
ParticipantLineup updates for #SEAvsPHI:
• Dan Vladar gets the start in net.
• Forwards Nikita Grebenkin and Jett Luchanko slot back into the lineup.
• Rodrigo Abols and Nick Deslauriers come out.Glad to see the kids back in the lineup, to bad Andrae didn’t join them.
Sanheim leads the entire league in TOI/game. I guess we’ll see if he can hold up.
Flyers_01
ParticipantBut his offensive game still needs to come around. Luchanko only has one shot attempt in about 27 minutes of ice time; only the Vancouver Canucks’ Arshdeep Bains has played more among forwards with one or zero shot attempts this season.
..
Last year, though, it felt more because Luchanko popped, whereas this season, it seemed to have more to do with the team’s reluctance to have him repeat the OHL level (although last season’s lack of center talent was also a contributing factor).
..
Though the team can dress him up to six more times this season without burning a year of his entry-level contract, a referendum feels like it’s coming sooner rather than later. Having the 19-year-old play fourth-line minutes was never a long-term situation, and he hasn’t popped enough to warrant a larger role.Flyers_01
ParticipantThey are really trying to drum up interest for Tippet. Hopefully this hot streak will allow them to get out of that contract.
