the flyers plan to go “big” game hunting in the summer of 2026 seems to be falling by the wayside. can’t wait to see how they pivot off that plan.

You seem to be alluding to this article but you aren’t wrong. The Flyers peter pan hopes of wishing upon a star next year are fading to black.

Loved this tidbit : Going further down the list, the names become a bit more familiar (Ryan Poehling, Scott Laughton) and a lot less appealing.

That would be a laugh riot.

Flyers quickly running out of big-move options for next NHL offseason

I blame Lavi more for the way he handled Bob which brought about the crisis. Snider never looked beyond the current season and it never mattered until the salary cap. For better or worse the Flyers were always in the mix for every free agent. Snider was just being himself given how Lavi handled the goalies the previous year. The move was bold even for Snider though with that 9 year contract but old rich guys near the end tend to ignore any and all red flags to get what they want.

Sadly, the Flyers still have yet to accept the reality that is the salary cap, and current state of free agency where top-end talent rarely (if ever) makes it to the market.

It does feel like the Flyers plan, if you can call it that, is to keep doing this. The Flyers are pinning their hopes on a franchise center and a franchise dman hitting UFA and then being able to outbid everyone for them.

While Ed Snider went full Jerry Jones, both he and Laviolette deserve blame as both made panic moves that led to Bobrovsky wanting out.

Who’s to Blame for the Sergei Bobrovsky Debacle?

What experts are predicting for the Flyers’ 2025-26 season

Pretty much nobody is predicting the Flyers to be better in the standings this year than last year although NHL.com says if the goaltending and PP play great it’s a possibility. NHL.com saying that those 2 units, historically bad last year and no reason for optimism this year, could lead the way to the playoffs is laughable.

“The Flyers have one truly major piece (Matvei Michkov) and enough other players of interest to eliminate tanking as an option, and they’re well-positioned for the summer of 2026. Another high pick would serve them best, but there needs to be contingency plans in place if, as expected, another year in the mushy middle awaits.”

Another year of treading water and not picking in the top 5 is predicted. SSDD. Thank god the Flyers are so much smarter than the rest of the NHL.

    There’s ugly, then there’s this.

    https://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/flyers_sergei_bobrovsky_trade_is_the_worst_in_nhl_history/s1_16448_42868794

Even over 13 years later, the Flyers are feeling the double whammy of it all. First, Bobrovsky is chasing his third consecutive championship ring with the Florida Panthers. Second, Bryzgalov is still receiving checks from Philadelphia to not play for their team—the buyout penalty runs through 2027. Finally, last season, the Flyers posted the NHL’s worst team save percentage of the 21st century: .879, according to QuantHockey.

Who do you blame more, Snider or Laviolette?

What’s funny is DB was on the roster for the trade and he is the lead architect of NHL’s worst team save percentage of the 21st century. I guess the Flyers aren’t just setting records with their league worst power play. I hope DB puts both accomplishments on his resume.

This also just in: 19 guys with the team this year played for the Flyers last year.

He’s a complicated man but no one understands him like his woman. John Shaft? No, John Tortorella. Nice to see Sullivan coaching Torts up. Again, he’s gone and the Rags will finish worse than the Flyers this year.

Why do you think the Flyers are a better team than the Rangers?

exactly, thanks for proving my point.

So you’re OK with a designated fighter if they can score 18 goals? Good to know.

There’s a difference between hockey players who can fight vs goons on skates. Loved Wayne Simmonds in his heyday. Chris Simon was great in his role with the caps. There are players who are assets on a normal shift where there isn’t a fight and there are those that are not.
ND is not an asset on the ice.

    This just in!

I’m not sure where you are going with this? You talked about the Flyers stats last year so i talked about the coach last year.

But i can talk more Torts if you would like.

    https://www.nhl.com/news/john-tortorella-mentor-at-olympics-hopes-to-coach-in-nhl-again

Sullivan on Torts : I want you to reveal yourself to the players and the other coaches. I want you to show the John Tortorella that I know, that my wife knows, that my kids know, that your kids know, that you don’t show the world very often.

Of course after that Torts went on to abuse York, refuse to talk to the captain of his team, quit on his team and generally be a pain in the ass for everyone. I guess he didn’t bloom.

DB’s best bud folks! Really makes you wonder about his decision making.

Disagree. You have a 2nd pair and 2 bottom pairs. Easily in the bottom 10 in the league. Time will teel what they have in JD. Going to be interesting to see what they do with him in terms of re-signing him. His play one will hope will dictate what they do.

They have nothing on the horizon to get even remotely excited about. Nothing.

The Flyers are still a cut well below the Top D groupings in the league which, not surprisingly, are the defenses for the top teams in the league. You’re overestimating the rest. Flyers were 8th in the league in fewest shots allowed last year. It’s a curious stat considering their overall record, but . . . there’s something there. Of course they could just forfeit all the games this season and try again next year.

    https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/nhl-shots-blocked-leaders-2024-2025-by-team

They were the #1 shot blocking team in the league while simultaneously being one of the worst puck possession teams in the league. In short, they sucked at hockey but were very good at getting hit with pucks. Torts hockey folks!

Hahaha! Yeah, OK. ND is a role player, a designated fighter. Some teams still carry them. FLA dresses theirs pretty well every night plus a lot of other chippy players.

You indicated you think CHI is closer to cup contention than the Flyers. Why? Bedard? Frondell will be a good player for them eventually. The rest looks bad. Way worse than the Flyers.

Carolina proved to be a bad matchup last year. Flyers need to end that Saturday.

I think you mentioned earlier in the offseason that your only concern is the current year? If that’s the case, why do you care and keep talking about cup contention? The Flyers sure as hell aren’t winning it this year and you don’t care about what’s on the horizon.
Will the Flyers be better than Chicago this year? Probably. If that’s all you care about then you win.

Cup contention is a marathon, not a sprint.
