After a good start to his AHL season I thought the Leafs had struck gold signing Borya Valis. As it turned out he cooled off and looked quite ordinary for most of the remainder of the season and into the Calder Cup playoffs.
This upcoming season the competition among right shooting right wingers will be much stiffer. Valis will be competing with the likes of Brandon Buhr, Miroslav Holinka, Ryan Tverberg and veteran Vinni Lettieri for playing time on the right flank. Granted, Holinka may be slotted in at center from the get go.
It is my hope that one of Valis or Buhr emerge as a right shooting power forward at the NHL level.
