ParticipantI know you want to view this trade as a W for the Habs but let’s not forget Dobson was a -16 last year and before you say “he was on a terrible Islanders team” he was +12 the year before on that same terrible team Cush29
The entire Islanders team had a rough year last year…lol
But to me, why the Habs are already winners is because they are getting an establsihed 1st line D, not even in his prime yet. He is certainly not one of the best in the league by any means, but he is a 1st line D nonetheless. Like I said, this could still very well pan out for New-York, but those picks could just as easily both be busts. It’s a very good extablsihed player for just potential. If these where top 10 pics, I would change my tune though.

ParticipantI am starting to suspect something significant might be on the horizon.
Bigger than something like trading to get a pick in the 1st round.
(I also think they have some decent potential for good picks at #41 and #49.)
In the past few decades, Montreal’s first round picks have been spotty to say the least, but in round 2 and latter rounds, we always seem to find gems. So it would not surprise me in the least if pick 41 or 49 ended up becoming a very solid NHL player.

ParticipantI have a feeling they will make a trade to grab a late 1st Symba007
I have a feeling there will be another bigger move then that.

ParticipantHabs gave up 2 x 1st round picks this year (16 and 17 overall) + an NHL player (Emil Heineman) just to get Dobson so it will be interesting to see over the years who wins this trade. Cush 29
To me Montreal is already a winner, and the Isles “could” be as well. Montreal already have an impressive cupboard of prospects. To trade the potential of the 16th and 17th pic for an established, and barely entering his prime 1st pairing D. is just what the Docotor ordered for Montreal.
Should the Isles use those pics to move up in the draft and they acquire the player they want, they could be winners as well if said prospect ends up being solid.
The potential for a win/win is pretty high.

ParticipantHabs likely dumped some salary somewhere… or will. Mash
Yep, I have a feeing it’s Price’s contract to SJ. While it’s never happened before, I could be wrong.

ParticipantElliot reporting Dobson to Montreal with an extension of 9.5M x 8 years.
That’s about 1 to 1.5 more than I would have liked. However with the cap increases and Dobson about to enter his prime years, I am ok with it.

Participantseems like Heineman and our 2 1st fidopro
If that’s it, I give this trade an A+ grade.
