Cap ceiling goes up, cap floor goes up, player salaries go up.
It was always crucial to draft well and that will not change. The three years of ELC and the RFA years is where teams get the best value.
And Daniel Briere did not help things. Players must love him. But if I were a GM, he would surely be on my blacklist.

Marner is an incredible player. Generational actually. He was, however, not built for the hometown Toronto glare, media attention, and scrutiny. There is nothing wrong with that. It does not change the fact that he is an amazing player. The change in location was necessary for him to reach the level he is at now.
I think that this team as it sits is unfixable and needs major surgery. Looking at how many top end teams handle the Leafs, they aren’t winning anything this year. Better to divest for draft picks and retool through free agency. Just need to get in the bottom 5 in the draft and move those lost picks 1 year forward. Just let it crash and be done with it. See if Pelly has the guts to completely gut this team and bring in a whole new management team, or is it just more lip service. Empty seats will speak his language.

This is kinda my point.. There is nothing to forgive.. The error here was made by
1) The initial police investigation(Which was half assed)
2) Hockey Canada
3) The crown prosecutor that decided to try the case based of a civil settlement that the players didnt even know about.The judge did everything but come out and call her a liar.
These guys had their names dragged through the mud and likely have permanent harm to their reputation when they did nothing wrong but party with the wrong.
The NHL is now saying they are ineligible to play because they has consensual sex with a woman. Guess they will need to shut the league down and suspend 99% of the players. My assumption at this point is consensual sex with a man puts you in a marginalized group and that then makes it ok.

Looks like they may attempt Bolduc as a 2C.
Hopefully we can find and trade for an established 2C (doubtful). Otherwise, there is nothing lost in trying it and seeing how it goes.
