ParticipantBon jour (😉)!!
Yeah, this whole ‘interwebs’ thing really trips me up sometimes 🤣🤣!
So, with Panarin (I spelled in wring in my post above), I’m not terribly upset. We’d be filling a gap that isn’t the most in need. He’s a touch older for sure, but he seems pretty healthy so may not fall apart like some of the older guys. He could end up like Kane and remain a threat into his later years, but I think we need a C and a D more.
To that point, I read that we’re ‘in the hunt’ for Weegar and Kadri….we’re making a huge mistake on both. Kadri’s too old and his production’s declined steadily over the past few years. Weegar’s a ‘maybe’, but he’s really more of a 5/6 D man vs what we really need (2-4 D).
Watching the Mammoth game; Larkin caught a stick in ‘that’ spot off a face-off, no penalty called on Utah, but the ref nailed Larkin for retaliation…..Larkin seems to be a target for questionable calls at times. Plus, his penalty cost a PPG for Utah to put us down 2. Here’s where Kadri would ve nice to have because he can get into the rough stuff….Whoever we bring in needs to be more physical, we just don’t have enough grit….

ParticipantAbsolutely awesome game. Defensively responsible, active sticks, hitt decently, FOW was a bit low and the PP has become a glaring concern. As I watched the game, my mind drifted to SCPO-calibre play….
Tons of ‘Panera Bread to move their HQ to Detroit!’… Listen, we’ve all spoken to the need for a true scoring threat. But really, what we’ve seen since Eddy went down is have precarious our back-end is. As much as I’d love to see Panerin come to HockeyTown, we need a viable D-dude. Few names such as Faulk and Logan Stanley, probably a few more. Stanley would be a great 2D and allow us to drop Hamonic. I’ve always liked Hamonic, great guy who brings a heavy game but his game just isn’t NHL suitable anymore. Without adding on the back-end, we’re a test-bed Libman broom company – swept cleanly out of the SCPO.
Panerin would be nice, no doubt but I’m also a huge fan of Trochek. We need a stud C. We could package Talbot and call up Cossa (it’s time for him to come up) maybe. I’d actually keep Ras (cannot believe I’m saying that….), because he’s playing a heavier game and is creating play at a much more steady pace.
Bottom line is we have a dire need for D and a 1C (call it 1A/B if you want…). Panerin’s a points guy for sure but he’s older and we have bigger holes to fill than on the wings….
Finally got the colums to update, Jeremy. For some reason my Android wasn’t pulling up your new write-ups 🤷♂️🤷♂️….Dang glad to have them populating!!!

ParticipantFirst, wishing y’all a VERY Happy New year!
Second, PIT took us to the house. We were unprepared, slow to react – just didn’t play worth a dang. Saw the line changes the Todd Father came up with, may help. Kasper & McD need to go back to GR and we need Leonard back up along with MBN to see how his game’s improved. To me, Leonard more than showed he was a viable player.
The reality is, we’re still 3 players away from being a threat to the SCF; F, D, G. And honestly, until we figure out the back-end, we’re going to struggle. This team IS good, we just need a couple of guys to push us over the edge…..
We’re going to get there, but this year may not see us make a deep SCPO run….IF we make it.

ParticipantI listened as we drove to visit in-laws. The guys explained how lethargic we looked. Can’t be that way against stronger teams; they feast on weakness and we have a hard time coming back – it does happen, and we’re better at coming back, but we can’t sustain that as a philosophy of making the SCPO…..

ParticipantI don’t think Cossa’s coming up unless there’s an injury. I’d like to see it, and I seriously think he’s on the team to stay next year. Cossa’s playing out of his mind right now, I feel he’s hitting his stride and will only improve as he ages and gains experience and confidence.

ParticipantI think the big issue for Hughes was the fact that, on the sueface, he would only be with us for 1.5yrs. I’m sure that if The Captain was to agree to the haul going back (ASP, MBN, et. al…), there would beed to be an extension in place and signed upon filing the trade with the league. Regardless, I’m ok that we didn’t pull the trigger for 1.5yrs. Kid’s gonna make bank on his next contract (I’d say $17m +….).
Team’s finally playing well. Some stumbles last night vs NYI, but play really was heavily slanted to our being on the attack. Leinard looked good and I’m wondering, with Bear-Grin gone, does JL stay up? I mean, dude laid some hits, was defensively responsible, and passed well. Needs a bit of time to adjust to being back in the Bigs, but he may be a keeper.
Losing Bear-Grin: I was/am a fan of the kid. Great personality which feeds overall atmosphere in the ‘room’. He just couldn’t fet his play to a level of viability. I think he’d imprived this year over last, but I’m sensing we’re going to see more ‘kids’ taking over this team. If I were The Captain, though, I’d being tendering a contract to Kane; his leadership and how he handles the puck, his demeanor on the ice….he needs to be here another year.
Hope you’re well, Jeremy!!!

ParticipantLooks like all of the supposition over Hughes is…..over. VAN fared very well in their return, so if that’s what we were asked for, I MAY understand why The Captain didn’t pull the trigger. Looks like it would’ve been Danielson, ASP, +. Waaay too big of an ask.

ParticipantGood morning, Jeremy!
Good write-up.
Finally got back from a work trip last night, watched a bit of the EDM game, wasn’t impressed. Seemed disjointed. That’s in stark comparison to the previous 3 games where everything seemed to be clicking. The common thread? Seems to be Hamonic.
Here’s the thing; I’ve always been a huge fan of TH, heavy hitter, great clogger of passing lanes, tough on the boards. But he’s never been a strong skater; he got by on his ability to anticipate where play was headed. The game’s pace has outgrown his anticipatory ability. He’s slow. But when he gets into a play, he can be effective – just not always. He’s physical, which watching the game last night, we seem to be lacking.
I recorded the 2 games missed while traveling, will watch them soonest. I’ll say this: ASP is starting to click, and I really like what I see. Still think we should be in on Hughes, but not at the cost of ASP. What I’ve read & heard (Eliot Friedman), a solid C may be the prime focus of a return for Hughes…..Kasper? Danielson? Kasper’s struggling, but his game is still solid. Danielson’s taking a bit longer to put up points, but man can that kid move (see Eddy’s EDM goal last night, Danielson was amazing…). The question becomes, IF we pull the trigger on either, or both; who do we bring up that has the same skill-set?

ParticipantGood morning, Jeremy! Hope you’re well.
Recorded the game, then watched it yesterday. Again, defensive lapses are costly. Our G situation is becoming more concerning. Gibson is showing his age and faults more readily, thus our defensive shortcomings are being laid bare for all to see.
I wrote about the Hughes chatter. Am interested to see what the populace thinks. I really think we should jump IF the price is right; not dumping Rayzor. The problem is that to get a kid like Hughes, a BIG name needs to go the other way, so who is it? The problem is the kids are ‘ok’, but there’s no one to step up and pay the style of hockey Rayzor does. If, for example, Danielson was blowing the league away, or Kasper was just devastating the league, I’d be more interested. Rayzor’s defensive game is impressive and his scoring and passing are in the top 1% of the league (MY estimates only, here….), and the kids haven’t hit that level yet. So losing him would be a major hit. ASP? Not sure, but could probably be persuaded to accept it. We’ve gotta pull of an incredible deal to make this happen. Also saw that MacTavish is UFA this year, that kid’s got a great game so I’d jump in on that solely because of the defense he brings. But I’m NOT looking to add offense to this team; we need a D-dude that just brings it every night. That’s been made perfectly clear. The next question………
At what point do we send one of our Gs off and call up Cossa? Or DO we? He’s killing it in the ‘A’, and I truly think he’s got what it takes to be competitive in the Bigs, now. His game has come sooooo far. Maybe he finishes the year off in the ‘A’, but next season should be Cossa’s shining debut.
Chairot’s been playing like a man possessed. I really like what I see, but why’s it taken so dang long to hit? Maybe a 1yr for him coming back…. JVR’s been the gift that just keeps on giving (YEP, ‘Christmas Vacation’). DEFINITELY want him camped out around the net, the guy’s just nails. Copp’s been playing better, but he’s sunk money; maybe a TDL move if we retain. Hearing that Gus may be on the move, wish he’d played better honestly, he could’ve been impactful. Eddy’s just been lights out this season. Pairing him with Mo has definitely helped his game, and now we truly have the #1 D pairing we’ve been hurting for over the last 9yrs. Those guys really have what it takes and both are impressive offensively…..Mo’s number show the positive impact….. and when is Mo going to be in the Norris discussion?!?!?!? Not saying he’s THE guy, but his numbers show how truly valuable he is to this team. Now, if he could only learn to fight (dude got ROCKED last week…..that was brutal to watch….).
We need to come out swinging each game. That’s not been happening and we’re paying a big price for it. String together a full 60min game. If we can do that, this team could be very dangerous……

ParticipantHiya, Jeremy! Hope all’s well, I know the MI weathee always bothers you….I’ve been told by *someone* that SC is really kinda nice 😉. Seriously, pray you’re ok.
So, onto our Wings 😒😮💨…. This is just painful to watch. We start like molasses in January….in Marquette, explode in the 2d, then can’t hold a lead in the 3d. The Todd Father talks of learning lessons, then building upon them: Methinks we’re flunking Defense 101. This team is horrible defensively. Said it before; cannot outscore our shoddy defense. TONS of chatter regarding Hughes…..
We need an upgrade on the back-end, Yes. But if the conversation start with Rayzor? Meh, kindly jump in Houghton Lake – in February, twice, in gymn shorts. Would Hughes be costly? Absolutely. Tuimisto? Buium? Wallinder? ASP? What’s the cost? VAN holds the cards. 32 Thoughts had it best; DET is the front-runner IF a move is there, but don’t expect it in-season. And he’s gonna cost. Throwing out Guimond or Augy? I think one of them plus ASP, Kasper, Buium, or Dani re lson gets it done IF he signs long-term. We’re not in a place to dump the truck for rentals.
Chiarot’s playing his best hockey. Period. Still some bone-headed plays, but far fewer than I’ve seen in a long time. JBD is improving, but I’m not sold. AlJo & Kasper are having a horrible Sophomore Skump (ok, AlJo’s been around longer – but y’all know what I mean…).
We’re hurting as a team; badly. A serious shake-up’s required. UFA D stinks this summer, we can only upgrade via trade. We’ve got great players in the cupboard – but no one who can take the game over and tilt the table our way, no one who can crush people like Kronner. We need a game-changer.
Such great news about Kronner going into the IIHF HOF. That guy….simply wow. He changed games with one hit.
Ozzy. Deserves. The. HHOF. Full stop.
Miss ya, buddy. Take care of YOU! We can handle the write-ups in-line like we did a while back. Get better my friend.
