It resets every July 1. They have to show up at the team site in Sept to be evaluated by the team doctors. After that it is up to the GM to put them on IR or LTIR. Once they are put on LTIR, they stay there until they are healthy or July 1, whichever comes first.

    ???? thanks.

BTW, are you the “Wiz” from HB who studies junior hockey and publishes his NHL draft rankings every year?

In the NHL, Injured Reserve (IR) allows a team to fill a roster spot for a player out for at least seven days but doesn’t provide salary cap relief. Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) is for players out for at least 10 games and 24 days and provides the team with salary cap relief, allowing them to exceed the cap by the amount of the LTIR player’s salary

Hi Wiz. I found that part of the rule distinction.
What I could not find was specifically whether a team can assign *regular* IR to a player who has “qualified” for LTIR for years (like Weber)
It’s clear abuse of the spirit of the cap floor.
Like I said though, it’s the NHL so it might be allowed.

I have not heard much in the way of Hutson extension gossip.
Was that expected before camp, or was there info that he is waiting for now?

I agree with you on the LTIR/IR rules. They can keep Weber and Brossoit on regular IR

Are you sure that they can do this?
I was not able to verify that for certain.

If Grecz looks good (even ok+) in camp I wouldn’t be surprised if they slightly overpay him on a 1 year contract.
His contract money could help them stay above the floor.

The unknown cap hit / roster spot right now depends on the status of Brossoit.

    edit:
I went down a rabbit hole w/ LTIR and regular IR rules.
If they are allowed to place Weber on IR (instead of LTIR) then his salary counts against the cap floor
but he does not use a roster spot. In that case the cap floor is not much of an issue for the Hawks.

I could not tell if that’s allowed w/ a player who has not played for 4 full NHL seasons.
(but it’s the NHL so definitely possible)

how far do you run? do you do it early in the morning like mr.peanut? i give you guys credit. i wish i had the willpower to do anything in the morning and you guys exercise and stuff. i’m like a zombie until like 11 am.

Tuesday 6:15 pm was speed work with a running club. (12) 400m with 1 minute rest after each.
Yesterday I went on a 9 mile trail run in a back-dune forest preserve near me at about 5pm.

I trail run w/ the run club as early as 7:30 am.
My best time of day to run is from about 8 am to 1 or 2 pm. After that my performance starts to suffer.

The 25/26 NHL Cap Floor is $70.6 million.
Here is a list of player salaries, shown in $ millions.

    0.94 Moore
    40.18 total
