ParticipantI expect him to be even better.
I just did not expect we would get where we are 10 games into the season.
Like I said, I am excited about the team and actually look forward to watching games.
yeah, I’ve been excited ever since the rebuild started, but now it’s getting even more fun now that you can see something special is going on, as we can look forward to multiple years of awesome habs hockey

ParticipantDemidov was expected (but not to this level this early)
I think a lot of people were actually expecting him to be this good, myself included lol.

ParticipantYes and of course Montembeault, as a competitor, most likely wants another shot as soon as possible…. but right now I’m going with the goaltender playing at an elite level because every point you can get is important.
yeah, I feel this might help create a self-confidence issue from Monty, and considering his track record and knowing that he’s usually reliable, I’d give him a start this week.
I don’t find waiting for a goalie to lose to give a game to the other one is always the best idea, as you want both guys to feel good about themselves to continue accumulating those precious points in the standings, but I get what you’re saying.

ParticipantYou go with the hot goalie, right?
If Monty was on a heater, you’d stick with him (unless it is B2B).
Dobes playing well is just a really good thing for the Habs – he game looks a lot better than last year, not as panicked, not out of position as often, using his size.
I did not expect to see this level of improvement this quick.
yes, but that logic has a certain limit imho, in the context of a week such as this one with barely any games I don’t feel giving all of them to Dobes is ideal, Monty might be struggling but he won’t get out of his funk if he isn’t playing.
I agree Dobes’ progression is impressive, if he can maintain that level of play then he’ll definitely be part of the conversation as to who the habs should keep once Fowler is ready.

ParticipantAnd if he plays well, he’d start next saturday as well.
damn, that would be a long time without playing though for Monty, they only have 2 games this week.

ParticipantWhile we wait… does Dobes get the start against Seattle?
you’re obsessed with this topic, aren’t you
🤣October 24, 2025 at 10:53 am in reply to: Brossoit: Canadiens Have the Talent Edge on Most Nights #44750Pat1993
ParticipantInstead of average, think middle of the pack if that stops your brain from exploding.
yeah, you told Fido not to use personal insults but I see you aren’t doing a whole lot better.
have a good one dude

ParticipantDo you not understand the word “often”?
*sigh*
if a player’s performances are below average more often than not, then overall he won’t be average now, will he?
I think we should move on to another topic, it’s Friday lol.
October 24, 2025 at 10:36 am in reply to: Brossoit: Canadiens Have the Talent Edge on Most Nights #44736Pat1993
ParticipantI said he is an average goalie because he is inconsistent.
His performances / number clearly show he is inconsistent and often below average.
again, is he an average goalie, or is he not?
😉

ParticipantHe is average and extremely inconsistent.
yeah, I find this perfectly illustrates the issue here, you’re contradicting yourself.
he wouldn’t be a decent/average NHL goalie if he was so extremely inconsistent as you’re saying.
we won’t agree on this, it’s fine 👍
October 24, 2025 at 10:17 am in reply to: Brossoit: Canadiens Have the Talent Edge on Most Nights #44724Pat1993
ParticipantHe just lets in a lot of bad goals, gives up lots of leads, and is really inconsistent (game to game and throughout the season).
When he is on, he delivers. 100%
But for most of last year, he was not that great.
Last year he has a hot December and April, somewhat OK/Average Feb and March (not good numbers, but won more than lost), and terrible Oct / Nov / Jan.
You just never know what you are gonna get when he starts a game.
Now is all this 100% on him? No, of course not.
Bottom line, if you had to win a game, is he the goalie you want?
Unlikely.
Monty played 62 games last season.
only 2 goalies played more games than that, Hellebuyck and Vasilevskiy.
his team made the playoffs, and he was a big reason behind that.
bygones I guess

ParticipantLast 3 games.
EDM Loss 29 shots / 23 saves / 6 goals against / .793 save % – Gave up 2 goal lead (Trice)
NYR Loss 22 shots / 18 saves / 4 goals against / .818 save % – Gave up 2 goal lead
SEA Win 22 shots / 18 saves / 4 goals against / .818 save % – gave up the lead 3 timesNot just last night.
Look at what Wolfe did against the Habs – Habs clearly a superior team, that guy kept them in it all night.
Monty does not have to win every game, he just has to give his team a chance to win every time…. his number suggest he is not even close to doing that this year.
As I have said, he is a middle-of-the-pack goalie, not someone who will win it when it counts.
meh, he does have a slow start to the season, but he’ll be fine.
you say you consider him as an average goalie yet you talk about him like they made the playoffs last year despite having him in net for a majority of games.
I’m not saying Monty is among the most elite goalies of the league, but I find you definitely have a bias against him, it is what it is.
October 24, 2025 at 9:48 am in reply to: Brossoit: Canadiens Have the Talent Edge on Most Nights #44713Pat1993
ParticipantIf he was losing, but his numbers were much better, this would be a very different conversation.
that was kind of my point, the numbers are inflated (or deflated, depending on how you look at it) with a game like last night since the opposing team was more aggressive and scored goals with fewer shots than on the night before.
but at this point I don’t think it’s worth even talking about it, you clearly aren’t a fan of Monty and never will be, and that’s fine.
October 24, 2025 at 9:24 am in reply to: Brossoit: Canadiens Have the Talent Edge on Most Nights #44704Pat1993
ParticipantEnd of the day, the numbers speak for themselves.
5 games, 2 wins, 3.82GAA, 0.842 Save %.
sure but objectively speaking the contrast in performances between Dobes and Monty was accentuated by the fact Dobes faced a Calgary team that is struggling to score goals, while Monty faced a much more offensively aggressive Oilers team, and it was the second night of a back-to-back for the team in front of him.
Dobes deserves the start on Saturday but both goalies aren’t necessarily worlds apart like you think they are.
