Leafs introducing their new head coach via zoom call as Chayka reads off a script in his office.

Just when you think this joke of a franchise can’t get anymore of a laughing stock.

The New York Jets of the NHL.

I stand corrected for next year you are right they lost some funding for 2026-2027 BUT all the government did is go back to the prior funding before the Liberal government gave them more for 2025-2026. CBC still gets way too much money for what it provides and is far too influenced by the government with respect to it’s programming and agenda for many.

I will believe that Carney cuts it heavily when I see it.

2026-2027: ~ $1.38 billion (a decrease of $192 million from the previous year)
    2025-2026: ~ $1.58 billion
2024-2025: ~ $1.38 billion (an increase from the previous year, with federal funds accounting for roughly 70% of the total budget)
    2023-2024: ~ $1.29 billion
    2022-2023: ~ $1.24 billion

One dollar is too much. This corporation turned off all of their over-the-air transmitters and only have 13 operational on the T.V. side. That alone was a gigantic savings. Those transmitters are in the largest cities and broadcast directly to the Liberal constituents. If you take the 10 largest markets and look at who they voted for, it’s overwhelmingly Liberal. The CBC is irrelevant since they’ve stopped producing their own programming and simsub many American programs. Their biggest expenditure is News and Opinion programming. Same for their radio side. They should have to stand on their own and if they can’t make it, sell it or fold. Not one dime should go to any media outlet.

More? We’re no longer in Trudeau’s NDP wearing red liberal government lol. This year they were decreased in funding by nearly $200 million. I’m willing to bet that after the first season without the NHL we will see Carney, a true businessman liberal (like or hate him), will begin to cut it even harder. I won’t mind, I don’t watch anything else on that station.

It should have been defunded long ago. It’s just a propaganda mouthpiece for the Federal Government and their woke culture is an abomination.

One thing can be said about the Chayka/Sundin combo, there are no leaks. No one saw the trade coming, yesterday. No one saw this coaching hire today either. I guess all of the turnover in the front office has sealed the leaks and now all of the press is in the dark about future moves. The draft is coming and I’m intrigued if they’re going to be proactive at the draft. The last number of years, you could mail it in because they had no draft capital to speak of. It’s starting to look like bodies will be moved and probably before free agency. Once the Marlies are done, some of those players may be traded or promoted. It appears that the Leafs are also after cap space, either for free agents, and, or taking on bad contracts for draft picks. That would make more sense, if you’re rebuilding on the fly. The next 4 weeks is going to tell the world which way the Leafs are going to be moving.

They could have got more for Woll, but I can see why they needed to move him. Artur Akhtyamov is ascending rapidly towards the NHL. He’s already passed Hildebly on the depth chart and the Leafs will need to add goaltending depth to the Marlies, hence Samuel Ersson. He could actually make the Leafs, if he gets an opportunity. We could also see Stolarz moving on if the deal is right. That cap space and opening a slot on the defense, appears to be the probability of at least 1 free agent defenseman. If the Rielly for Nurse trade comes to be, the Leafs defense will look quite different next year. Something tells me that Marlies coach John Gruden might be high on the list to be the next Head Coach. It’s about to get interesting, once the Marlies finish their playoff series with Chicago. Up 3 – 0, it looks like it’s getting to be soon over. Akhtyamov appears to be the real deal. Lets see if he can translate this into being an NHL caliber starter.

I think they could have gotten more for Woll, but maybe the market didn’t support that assumption. It could also mean that a free agent signing is imminent. $5M in cap space could allow the team to grab 2 free agent defensemen, once Rielly gets moved. Add another power forward and they’re in business. I don’t like small defensemen because they get demolished in the playoffs. I give this trade a C-. It all depends what they do with the Cap money.

It’s all Marlies. The only game in town. Seems weird having them as the last hockey series of the season. Hopefully done by the weekend. Then draft shmaft, as the late Cliff Fletcher used to opine. Time to get summer going.

The Knights are also sucking wind with draft picks. It’s going to be hard to get back to the finals with their aging core…..hummm, I wonder where I’ve heard that before. Marner can go lose himself in Justin Bieber’s dungeon somewhere. The best thing that the Leafs can do is just win!

The bully pulpit should be humming today. So much talk about the Stanley Cup final. Lots of talk about the UFC match, as well. Lots of Marlies talk and the draft approaching. June may be more fun, now the Leafs have something to build on. Early May was dismal. Our new lucky number is 12. Maybe McKenna, if drafted, should use that number for his Leaf jersey. It’s too bad that many of the younger prospects, in the NHL, like high numbers on their jersey’s. It would be grand to see a top prospect use a traditional number, that isn’t retired. I don’t think 12 is a retired number on the Leafs and it would be a good one for the 1st pick in the draft. I imagine Mitch is in a run down hotel room, with a light and ceiling fan rotating around and around over his bed. Just laying there in his wife beater shirt, wondering if, had he taken the trade to Carolina last year, he would be a Champion. But Mitch being Mitch, he wanted to turn the knife on his team, the fanbase and the press. Now he gets to hide away in his dank, dark little room that’s really in his head.
