Zegras isn’t a true 1C but he can be a 2C if the Flyers find another way to come up with a No. 1. Too bad Anaheim matched on Carlsson.

Even with the cap inflation, Zegras got a very good deal for himself. He wasn’t going to get the Aho deal, but he got more than 9 million and will still be in his prime when he’s a UFA. GOod deal for both sides.

Oh yeah, Zegras wants to be here and signed so it’s a good deal for both sides. The Flyers, in no way, overpaid. 7.5% of the cap is what Zegras has already proved to be in my view. I think there should be more debate over what it should take to be a 10% of the cap guy, as just one example. How much is a solid Top 4 Dman worth? More than 5%, that’s for sure. Now a 10% guy can be paired up with an ELC guy and hopefully you’ve got one of your best players and your best young player at maybe 11%. That can look great so long as you don’t have too many guys at 10%. Shorter term deals are clearly the way forward for a while. Not that many top guys were going UFA anyway so what’s the big deal?

What do you think about Fridge’s statement that he thinks McDavid will consider Philly when he hits UFA?

Zegras is good but shouldn’t get what Aho does even with cap inflation.

For example, Carolina’s Sebastian Aho carries a $9.75 AAV on his current deal (which started in 2024-25).

Aho has been a consistent PPG guy for pretty well his entire career.

Zegras has been a consistent .8 PPG guy for the three years he’s been healthy. He still has a nice upside though, just heading into his 25 YO season when top players tend to find higher levels of production from 25 on.

If I’m Danny, I’m already reaching out to Mityukov’s agent with an offer sheet for the highest amount for tier 2, 11.923 mil p/yr, heavily front loaded, for a full 5 years. They can’t match both and we need a #1 D as much as a #1 C. As soon as they match Leo, I sign Mityukov and get my Dman of the future, and for less then 4 #1 picks. (2 #1’s and 2nd and a 3rd). Verbeek really left himself wide open for this. It should probably cost him his job.

we are too late on that one now. we couldn’t have do it anyway at the $7.4M cap that it cost Anaheim. I still think they match on LC but I hope I am wrong!!

While the Philadelphia Flyers engaged in the first week of NHL free agency, their annual Development Camp took place at the Flyers Training Canter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they just run it back with basically the same roster for this upcoming season. You will have Martone for the full year and maybe Bonk and/or Jiricek replace someone in the top 6.

Looks likely unless an opportunity comes their way. Once they get all the RFAs signed, they have a full roster of NHL players with extras. Briere has shown a preference for filling needs internally. If you’re a Flyer today, you will get a fair shot at stepping up before they look around and see what’s out there. The 1C and another top pair D should be on the wish list but aren’t essential at this point. Intrigued by Carlson on D. Anyone moving a 1C is or should be rebuilding and will want a proven younger pro center back. Flyers don’t have that yet. Teams will keep an eye on Jett and the two Jacks. If all goes well, Jett pushes a PPG in LHV this year. If he’s closer to a .5 PPG, that’s very bad news. A lot can change in season too. Fully half the roster was different from opening night to the last playofIf game.

I don’t think they simply run it back. Danny knows this is still a bubble team if they do that. He’ll want to take the next step forward which is a more solid playoff team if not an actual contender to win the East yet.
