ParticipantBy his play Vladar should get this start, but I fully expect Ersson in net. At this rate, Zamula is playing his way out of the top 6 pretty quickly. Undrafted player, who deserves credit for getting this far in his career, but he is trending to be a very fringe 6th Dman. No need to be overly critical with the player, start pointing the finger at the organization cannot figure out a way to build a better top 6 blueline.

ParticipantDvorak is the Laughton replacement. He is not a top 6 player, but Flyer HCs seem intent on playing them in that that role. I have no issue with the contract, but my hope is he moves down the lineup quickly. No issue managing Luchanko and building him up slowly. Grebenkin has earned the right to be in a top 9 spot and hopefully is inserted there against CAR.

ParticipantThey have so many wingers in the organization, I could see Briere trying to trade a winger for a Dman. It will have to be a Zegras type trade, which the Flyers will hope to win. Byram in that regard makes sense. Rumor has been Briere with interest in Brandt Clarke. I am very concerned about the Oliver Bonk injury. Just two more weeks before he is ready to go, well have not heard that one before.

ParticipantWhew, that top 6 would have a hard time consistently winning with top 10 goaltending. Briere better be gearing up to make trades to improve this roster, waiting till the summer when there will be scraps left in free agency will not get it done. At least, I expect the team to score more goals, but somehow the ability to prevent goals has gotten significantly worse from last season, which I thought would be very difficult to achieve.

ParticipantTippett looks lost on the ice. He had decent chemistry with TK last season. Once Martone was drafted, good chance Tippett does not see the second half of his contract extension as a Flyer.

ParticipantIt appears the short-term strategy is to hope somehow the team save % can get above .900. I am not very optimistic this will happen. They are still much closer to a top 5 pick then a playoff spot. Frankly, until this current regime can show the ability to get consistent goaltending, all the other aspects to building the roster will not matter. Briere cannot just point to and look at Zavragin will be really good when gets here. Looks like Dilly’s last hope to save his job will be if Vladar can post a career best save % this season. Boosh will have to word salad a ridiculous amount of times this season to avoid using the term “soft goal” this season.
All the eggs are already in the basket.
Flyers fans better start praying this kid isn’t the next in a long line of Maxime Oullet over-hyped goaltenders.
I agree, the expectations will be ridiculous. I am amazed how long a leash Dillabaugh has received from this organization. He has been the goaltending coach since the ’15-’16 season. For an organization putting a huge emphasis on player development to rebuild the team into a contender, I just do not understand the current plan to solidify the crease.
Right now, I believe the team will be better offensively, but whatever they construct as a 3rd pair and the goalie depth chart right now, I see them battling it out for the basement in the Eastern Conference. At this point it would be a miracle to see the the team goals against below 3 by the end of the season.

ParticipantPretty meh signings, considering the lack of term is a good thing. Over pay on a a 1 year a whole lot better then over paying for multi years. Really hope they trade a goalie and bet on upside then select from the slop left in free agency. Canes just signed a goalie from the KHL and traded for Primeau. Maybe the Kochetkov rumors are true. Still would hope they move a winger off the roster.
Trox88
ParticipantWow, Demko supposedly extended 3 years @ 8.5 million. Did not see that coming.
Trox88
ParticipantSo rumors circulating that the Flyers are pursuing Corey Perry. I guess they want to create a top notch annoying 4th line. Not sure the path trying to sign another winger with the abundance they already have. I would hope a winger off the roster would be shipped out.

ParticipantWell the Hague rumors proved to be false.
How were they false? Hague got traded after all. I was a bit surprised as the Pietrangelo is finished talk started shortly after the Hague rumors started. The Flyers don’t have the pieces to have matched what NSH gave up. Get the Dman in UFA. They have some cap space.
Well, do you really believe if the Flyers valued Hague as a top 4 option, they did not have the assets to better NSH’s offer. I certainly believe they did and chose not to pursue. I’m fine with the lack of action for Hague.
I believe EDM will make changes in goal. I would have interest in Stu Skinner. I know it can be argued the Oilers lost the last 2 finals because of goaltending. However, goaltending was part of the reason they got to the finals (not the main reason) 2 straight times. Similar in my interest in Demko, Skinner is only signed for this season. Does not work out, no long term cap pain. Goaltending options appear to be dwindling quickly.

ParticipantWell the Hague rumors proved to be false. Not sure what the plan in NSH is turning into by Trotz. Surprised Byram did not get moved at the draft, wonder if BUF over played their hand.

ParticipantRead Jake Allen was looking for a 4 year deal. Good for him if he can get that term, definitely do not want the Flyers to give him that contract. Hofer extended in STL, so he is no longer an option. Demko may not extend, which will supposedly lead him to be traded. I expect the goal tending situation to be resolved pretty quickly after the start of free agency.

ParticipantI can’t complain with the selection of Martone. Was hoping one of the two was available @ 6- unexpected both available. I just do not see a path how Tippett will be on the roster 2 years from now unless Foerster falls off. Hope they sell high and do not beat the value out of him before moving him. As far as Nesbitt, we all knew they were going center with their next pick after Martone. Once McQueen was selected by ANA, pretty sure the prospects left who were considered first round and definitely projected to play center in the NHL were Nesbitt and Cootes. My preference would have been Cootes, but I understand the process.
If Ryabkin falls into the 3rd round, I sure hope the Flyers make the pick. I understand the warts, but at that point of the draft using a lottery ticket for him.
Outside of the top five or six kids, most of these other kids who are selected will be NHL role players, I personally think Martone is going to be an impact NHL’er, he’s really talented. Sure there’ll be two of three kids like Brayden Point or Jason Robertson, but those are the outliers and teams will obviously be lucky to find one of them. Just look back nine or ten years at drafts, 2015 produces 29 kids who has 200 or more points, 2016 produces 16 kids with 200 or more points. Elite talent generally comes from the very top of the draft, when you’re picking after #10 you’re hoping to get lucky and you’re also building depth within your organization.
Agreed and that why it was so important Briere did not over think pick 6. I do expect them to replenish the goal prospect pool today. I just hope they take a flier on Ryabkin at some point in day 2. The chances of prospects drafted after the first round is so low, betting on talent is not a bad thing.
