We are days away from the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Unlike recent years, the Winnipeg Jets find themselves as sellers this time around. Having said that, let’s take a look at some of the pending UFA’s who the Jets can offload for assets.
Forwards
Jonathon Toews
Tanner Pearson
Gustav Nyquist
Cole Koepke
First and foremost, Toews has already indicated that he’s not waiving his no trade clause to facilitate a trade out of his hometown. Therefore, we can scratch his name off this list. The remaining players of this group may bring back mid-round picks at best. The chances of any of these players signing an extension with the team are between slim to none.
Defencemen
Logan Stanley
Luke Schenn
Colin Miller
The Jets only pending UFA that may bring the team back a 1st round pick is the 6’7 Stanley. His breakout year offensively this year has been a pleasant surprise to say the least. In addition to the fact that he throws hits and is not afraid to drop the gloves when necessary, Stanley may be a player that playoff bound teams may value as they get ready for the post-season. After Stanley, neither Schenn nor Miller are anything more than bottom pairing/replacement level defencemen. Between Schenn and Miller, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff may be able to recoup another mid round pick or two if other teams may be attracted to Schenn’s playoff experience or Miller’s booming shot.
Goalies
Eric Comrie
When Connor Hellebuyck was sidelined earlier in the season, after a minor knee surgery, Comrie was in prime position to show the league that he can be a full-time starter and earn himself a nice contract this summer. However, that did not happen. Not only did Comrie play poorly over this stretch, he may have even diminished any chance of the Jets management attempting to re-sign him. The only reason for the Jets management to re-sign him is due to his close relationship to the Jets starting netminder.
Brokers
With the ample amount of salary cap space that the Jets have, they can also help facilitate transactions between other teams as they can take on salary in exchange for draft capital.
All in all, it should be a quiet trade deadline for the Jets. Other than moving out some veteran players, they should not be involved in any kind of ground-breaking transactions as they will look to retool/reload in the off-season after what has been a very disappointing 2025-2026 regular season.
