Jets Soar, Captain Extends

The Winnipeg Jets opened a three-game homestand by defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-2, on Tuesday night at the Canada Life Centre. Eric Comrie got the win in goal. They have now won three of their last fourgames. The team’s record improves to 12-7 on the season. Moreover, with Morgan Barron returning to the lineup, this was the first game of the year, in which the Jets iced a fully healthy roster.

Team captain Lowry scores and signs extension

Adam Lowry played in his first home game of the season and opened the scoring for the Jets when he took a nifty feed from Nino Niederreiter. It was Lowry’s first goal of the season. Speaking of Lowry, he and the Jets have just agreed to a 5-year contract extension worth $25 million dollars. Lowry has always mentioned that he envisioned himself as a Winnipeg Jet for his entire career. This contract extension should take him to close to the end of his career. Congrats to him. He has been a great captain both on and off the ice.

Three Winnipeg defenceman score

In a rarity, the Jets got goals from three different defenceman on Wednesday nigh. Josh Morrissey got his 4th goal of the season when he finished off a nice back-door feed from Mark Scheifele. Neal Pionk scored his first goal of the season on the PP. Finally, Logan Stanley blasted home his 3 rd goal of the season. Stanley is having a career year thus far.

If the club’s defenceman can chip in goals here and there it will really help take some of the burden off of the team’s top forward line.

Connor scores 11th, Scheifele sets Jets record

Kyle Connor notched his 11th goal of the season on Wednesday evening. He and Mark Scheifele are now tied for the team lead. Nathan Mackinnon of the Colorado Avalanche leads the league with 14. With his three assists on the night, Scheifele now has 27 points through 19 games. He is also now the franchise leader in games played as he surpassed his long-time linemate and friend Blake Wheeler.

Up Next for the Jets

The team is now off until Friday night when they welcome Nikolaj Ehlers and the Carolina Hurricanes to town. Surely, there will be a very nice tribute video for the player everyone in Winnipeg referred to as Fly. It should be a great test for the Jets.
