Flyers winger Matvei Michkov did not win the Calder Trophy or place within the top three finishers in the balloting. However, the 20-year-old Russian did not go away empty-handed. On Thursday, the NHL announced its 2024-25 All-Rookie Team. The Russian standout was one of the two rookie wingers awarded the honor along with former Flyers draft pick Cutter Gauthier of the Anaheim Ducks. The full team:
Goaltender: Dustin Wolf (Calgary Flames)
Defense: Lane Hutson (Montreal Canadiens)
Defense: Denton Mateychuk (Columbus Blue Jackets)
Center: Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks)
Wing: Matvei Michkov (Flyers)
Wing: Cutter Gauthier (Anaheim Ducks)
Calder Trophy winner Hutson and Calder finalists Wolf and Celebrini were unanimous choices for the All-Rookie Team among the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) voters. The other three were not unanimous but had a plurality of the votes. Frankly, it’s a joke that Michkov wasn’t a unanimous pick for a wing spot. Nevertheless, what really matters is that he was chosen.
Michkov is the 11th Flyer to earn a spot on the All-Rookie team, which was created in 1982-83. The others: Pelle Lindbergh, Thomas Eriksson, Ron Hextall, Mikael Renberg, Chris Therien, Janne Niinimaa, Brian Boucher, Joni Pitkanen, and Shayne Gostisbehere.
ah the Cutter, could have had 2 on the list, but shxt happens. I hope Jaime D has a great season coming up
