McDavid is Unstoppable Right Now

Connor McDavid celebrated his birthday on Tuesday. If it was his wish to see his point streak extended, then his wish came true during the Edmonton Oilers’ 4-3 overtime defeat to the Nashville Predators. McDavid, who entered Tuesday’s game in the midst of an incredible 19-game point streak, registered two assists to extend it to 20 games. It’s the longest point streak of his career.

Registering a point in 20 consecutive games is hard to fathom in today’s NHL. However, there is only one Connor McDavid. His production throughout the course of his streak is mind-boggling. Over his last 20 games, he has registered 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points. He now has 82 points in 47 games this season.

McDavid has proven time and time again during his 11 years in the NHL that he’s capable of such feats. With his latest feat underway, one would think that the Oilers were in a prime position to compete for the Stanley Cup. Well, they’re not, and the reason is that they can’t win on their captain’s shoulders alone. As great as he is, he still needs a little help.

McDavid Still Needs Help

Now, I’m not saying that Edmonton isn’t a good team. Heck, it’s hard to be a bad team when you have the likes of McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers will make the playoffs, thanks to the Pacific Division having a subpar year compared to the Central Division. But can this team win the Stanley Cup? Perhaps if their superstars go on 20-game point streaks during the playoffs. However, given the number of quality clubs in both conferences, it’s hard to fathom that happening.

Although I suppose anything is possible with McDavid in the Oilers lineup. So, with that, happy birthday to Connor. We’ll see how long he can keep the streak going.
