Red Wings: Larkin’s line, MBN’s chase

Red Wings are being led by Larkin

The Detroit Red Wings got a much needed, albeit surprising win over Edmonton on Sunday. Dylan Larkin opened the scoring, and in fact was part of every single goal. In Detroit’s four goal game, Larkin had two goals and two assists.

The captain is leading the team, and he’s leading on the scoresheet as well. With 11 points (5 g, 6A) Larkin is averaging just under two points a game, although it’s still early in the year. Larkin has been a catalyst, and he’s leading the team to an incredible start.

Larkin, Raymond and Finnie

Heading into the summer, a lot of uncertainty surrounded the Captain and his line. The unlikely addition of Finnie provided the necessary, however unlikely piece that was sorely needed. The line of Larkin, Finnie and Raymond are clicking, and they’re leading the way.

The three skaters have combined for 21 points in 6 games, indeed an impressive task for the trio. That line has averaged over three points per game, while tallying a combined 9 goals. The chemistry is working, and there is no longer a question of who will be on the Captain’s left. That stability has provided a welcome, as well as a sorely needed stability for the team.

MBN hasn’t scored yet, but he will

After six games, two of the three rookies have collected their first NHL goals. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, however, has yet to tally his first NHL point. MBN if one of only four players on the team who haven’t scored, and the only one to play in every game.

However, MBN has been able to contribute in key situations, and that’s has kept him in the lineup. He ranks 15th in time on ice, averaging over 13 minutes per game. While MBN is anxious to score, it’s very clear that he has gained the trust of the coaching staff early in his career. The team will be on the road, and that’s may be just what the doctor ordered for Brandsegg-Nygard.
