Red Wings were not good enough in loss

The Detroit Red Wings did not look ready to play the Buffalo Sabres, and they paid for it on the scoreboard. By the end of the second period, Detroit was being outshot 26-16 even though the score was tied. The team found their legs in the third, however it was too little and too late.

For most of the game, the Sabres looked like the stronger team and John Gibson wasn’t able to steal this one. The Red Wings had gotten timely saves early on, but the pressure of Buffalo ended up being too much. Detroit wasn’t able to respond in the third period, consequently the Sabres took a 4-2 victory.

Dylan Larkin continues his point streak

Dylan Larkin continued his point streak, which has now stretched to seven games. Larkin assisted on Emmitt Finnie’s third goal, and that line continues to produce.  Larkin’s line has a combined 24 points, thus averaging more than 3 points per game. Larkin has 12 points (5g, 7a) while Finnie (3g 3A) and Raymond (2g 4A)  each have six.

Finnie’s goal was his third in two games, and Raymond collected the second assist. The Red Wings seem to have solidified that line, but more players are going to need to get going. Marco Kasper has still registered just one point (goal), and the team won’t have Patrick Kane for at least one more game. J.T. Compher scored his first goal, and Berggren tallied his first point on the year.

MBN is still looking for his first NHL point

With Berggren’s assist, MBN is now one of just three players yet to record a point. The rookie has played in all seven contests, and has lent a physical presence to the bottom six. Notably, Brandsegg-Nygard was tied with Finnie for team lead in hits heading into the game.

The Red Wings won’t have to wait long to redeem themselves, as they hit the ice again in less than 24 hours. Back to back road games will be a new test for the young team. The group will be anxious to put this loss behind them, and attempt to start a new winning streak.

  1. These are the Wings I know and love, well, just used to I guess. Can’t find their rhythm, let the other team dictate the play, look completely lost out there. Do they miss Kane that much? What happened to the defense? Where did it go? Did they underestimate the Sabres? They played catch up all night long and they didn’t do it very well. Hey, at least Berry looked okay.
Here’s hoping they take out their frustrations tonight.
