The Winnipeg Jets were relatively quiet on the first day of free agency. They made the Jonathon Toews signing official along with a few depth signings.
Jets make Jonathan Toews signing official
The Toews official contract is a one-year, $2 million base contract with potential to go as high as $7 million if certain performance bonuses are met. Any performance bonuses met during the 2025-2026 playoffs, will be applied to the 2026 Salary Cap. With Adam Lowry projected to
start the season on LTIR after undergoing hip surgery, Toews will most likely begin the season centering Nino Niederreiter and Alex Iafallo on the Jets’ third line.
Tanner Pearson
Pearson signed a 1 year, 1-million-dollar contract with the Jets. He played last season on fourth line for the Vegas Golden Knights and scored 12 goals. Pearson won a Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings in 2014. He recorded his career high 24 goals in the 2016-2017 season with the
Kings. This is a nice depth signing by the Jets. Pearson should slot in nicely on the 4 th line left- wing position.
Cole Koepke adds forward depth for Jets
Like Pearson, Koepke also signed a 1 year, 1-million-dollar contract with the Jets. Koepke played last season with the Boston Bruins and scored 10 goals which was a career high. He should also compete for a regular fourth line role.
Three former Jets players that will officially not be back are fan favorite Brandon Tanev, Dylan Coghlan and Dominic Toninato. Tanev signed a 3-year contract with the Utah Mammoth. Coghlan signed a 1-year contract with the Golden Knights. Lastly, Toninato signed a 2-year, 2-
way contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Other former Jets that have yet to be signed to new teams are Nikolaj Ehlers and Mason Appleton. I don’t expect either to be back in a Jets uniform in the fall.
You forgot to mention that Tanner Pearson was Mark Scheifele’s winger when they played together for the Barrie Colts.
Yes! You’re right. If Kyle Connor is ever on the shelf, perhaps Tanner Pearson will get an opportunity to play with his old teammate.
