For the New York Rangers prospects, Saturday helped to make this week a lost cause as the offensive woes continued. Eight prospects played and there was not even a single assist to show for any of them.
Equally frustrating is watching losses starting to pile up with each passing game as the overall record for the night was 3-5. Right now, other than Malcolm Spence’s second-ranked Michigan Wolverines and Sean Barnhill’s top-ranked Michigan State Spartans, none of the other teams with Rangers prospects is off to a particulary good start in the point production department.
- Spence and his Wolverines needed overtime to escape Notre Dame with a 2-1 win in Big Ten play. Spence was scoreless with all of one shot to show for his efforts as the Wolverines improved to 9-1 (2-0 Big Ten) on the season. Spence has gone pointless in his last five games and no goals in six.
- E. J. Emery was scoreless on one shot as his eighth-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks defeated the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 5-1 in NCHC play. The win gave North Dakota a split of their weekend series as they improved to 5-3 (1-0-0-1 NCHC) on the season. Emery other than his two-goal night has not scored in his last five games.
- Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts defeated the Erie Otters 4-2 in OHL play to even their record at 7-7-0-3. Passmore is 1-0-1 after 16 games for the Colts.
- Brody Lamb and his 18th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers were shut out 4-0 by 14th-ranked Wisconsin in Big Ten play. Minnesota has lost four straight to fall to 2-7-1 (0-2 Big Ten) as Lamb who remains the leading scorer for Minnesota at 4-3-7 has gone pointless in his last four games.
- Ty Henricks was scoreless as his third-ranked Western Michigan Broncos dropped a 5-1 decision to St. Cloud State in NCHC play. Western Michigan falls to 5-3 (1-1 NCHC) as Henricks has gone without a goal in four straight games and is 2-4-6 overall.
- Artem Gonchar was scoreless as his Sudbury Wolves dropped a 4-3 game to the Owen Sound Attack in OHL play. Gonchar has posted three points (1g, 2a) on the season for Sudbury as they fell to 4-11-1-0 on the season, last in the OHL’s Central Division.
- Raoul Boilard went scoreless. His Shawinigan Cataractes were whipped 7-2 by the Newfoundland Regiment in QMJHL play. Boilard saw his streak of three point games end at three games as his Cataractes fell to 6-4-1-2. Boilard has 12 points (5g, 7a) 5overall this season which is second best among Rangers prospects.
- Nathan Aspinall was scoreless as his Flint Firebirds got spanked 7-0 by the Branford Bulldogs in OHL play. Aspinall leads the Rangers prospects in scoring at 6-8-14 as his Firebirds are 8-5-1-0 on the season.
