Carrick Delivers For Red-Hot Sabres

Buffalo Sabres center Sam Carrick was added to the roster as a fourth-line depth player at the trade deadline on March 6th.

The 34-year-old veteran forward has brought far more to the club than anticipated since his arrival in Buffalo. Carrick was acquired from the New York Rangers in exchange for a third-round pick and a sixth-round selection in the 2026 entry draft.

The native of Markham, Ontario, has been a hard-working two-way player who is strong in the faceoff dot. His ability to win draws in critical situations made Carrick a valuable deadline target, but Carrick has delivered more than just bottom-six forward experience and faceoff proficiency.

Since making his Sabres debut, Carrick has scored five goals in just eight appearances with Buffalo. With an every-other-night regular-season schedule drawing to a close, the Sabres rely on the strength of all four forward lines to secure wins.

The club’s ability to get offensive contributions from throughout the lineup has been a key to the team’s success.  Earlier this month top forward Tage Thompson had gone five games without finding the back of the net, but at the same time, the Sabres just kept rolling and winning games.

The Gold medal winning Olympian is now back on track. Thompson has a goal in each of Buffalo’s last two games as the push to clinch a playoff position continues.

The Sabres remain at the top of the Atlantic division standings and are within striking distance of first place in the Eastern Conference. With the victory at Los Angeles on Saturday, the team extended their franchise record road point streak to thirteen games with a mark of 12-0-1. This historic run has Buffalo’s balanced attack on display game after game.

“You’re always looking to score for sure,” said Carrick of his line, which includes wingers Payton Krebs and Beck Malenstyn.

“First and foremost, we want to be a tough line to play against. Defensively responsible. We’re not gonna be a run-and-gun line. We’ve got some offensive weapons on our team. We’ll rely on them for a lot of that stuff. If we can just do our job and shut down other teams and chip in offensively whenever we can then that’s great. “

“We do a good job here of rolling our lines”, said Carrick. “Trusting everyone in all situations. It’s been great to be on the fourth line. We’re getting put in different situations. It’s just easier to find a groove when we’re rolling lines like that. It’s just been fun.
