This is the future: Artur Akhtyamov. One injury and he comes up and maybe never goes down again. Rielly could be better this year, knowing that he’s on the bubble. I hope that he stayed in shape because the alternative is gone!
If Rielly is better, my money for the reason is on the coaching style, and the same goes for Matthews. Berube the longer he was around the team got worse and worse as he really got to put his stamp on the team. good riddance
The Goalies concern me, Bob was awful last season and Stolarz always misses time.
If they are trash its a lost season.
I dont think Rielly is untradable, I just wouldn’t give him away. if hes in a lesser role, not expected to the the #1 top dog, maybe he can be sheltered more.Exactly this. The Leafs were not going to add a “sweetner” to move him.

Chayka hasn’t been afraid to get rid of sacred cows to better the team. Revamping the goaltending is huge. They need one more upgrade on the back end. Rielly turned out to be untradable. I guess you put him on the 3rd pairing and let him play against the other team’s 3rd and 4th lines. They may need one more forward with moxie when playing teams like Florida.
Iv come around to Hiller as coach, the most important thing is Matthews getting back to his normalish self.
Defense that can move the puck better will help. Just a weird season coming, I really dont know what to expect, and then you have the Mckenna part.
I am looking forward to this season, which is a lot more than last season where I barely watched any games, let see if they can hold my attentionWe’re almost a month out from the start of the regular season. Looking at the Leafs roster as it stands, you have to wonder whether the defense will hold up. They have a lot of over-30 defensemen, and it wouldn’t take much for the defense to collapse, with few ready prospects to jump into the NHL this year. The goaltending looks sound, and the forward units are rounding out. A good 2nd line center would help, but Tavares may have one more good year left in his body. It’s a gamble, and trades could still occur, but the Leafs look to challenge for a playoff spot, as long as they get off to a quick start. Jim Hiller is a question mark behind the bench, but maybe he’s the tonic to get the best out of the core players. It should be a competitive and interesting season, especially in the Atlantic.
