Which they could have made themselves with their own 1st had they not already traded their 1st for that year in the ROR trade.
The Leafs blueline could have maybe 2 “old” guys on it. But not 5 who have 0 goals.
Oh I know but they did trade for ROR but can’t blame the current GM for that move. I’m just saying, I agree the D sell offs have sucked but at least that one deal paid something back.
And you know how I feel about this blueline. Rielly signed for 3 more years after this one? Ugh, just watch, the 10 teams he hands over for the last 2 years won’t need D so they won’t be interested in dealing for him. Raddysh, 143 career points after last season where he got 70 of them and the Leafs signed him for 8 years, yup that got an out loud WTF from me. McCabe and Tanev, solid, but old, and signed for 3 more years with NMCs as well, and then OEL, the one I can at least forgive since he’s nothing more than a $3.5 mill bottom pairing guy done after next year. You’re right, he could have been a nice trade last year but once again, that GM had a crush on him or something *shakes head*

They absolutely are but not all at once and not all for the same reasons. But you’re missing what “fixed” means. Fixed means having a younger blueline that skates, scores and passes at a higher level. Fixed means D that can hold a blueline, clear a zone, reduce shots and chances without getting caved in for most the game.
OEL should have been traded last year. His value was high and at the deadline would have brought us back a better return than today.
Tanev could be easily traded to a contender at the deadline if he’s healthy. Same for McCabe.
Rielly and Raddysh are the problem. Rielly has been trash for years and Raddysh is his new trash replacement. And the Leafs system has no viable replacements for any of them because of poor draft capital and draft management for the past 10 years whereby they’ve drafted and developed ZERO top talent on the blueline. Even if the Leafs had managed to draft and develop ONE top-four blueliner every 5 years, they’d be vastly better off. All they have to show is the likes of Schenn, Sandin, Liljegren and many others that don’t play for the Leafs.

I didnt watch the game because I Curl pretty much every night, but this felt like a scheduled Leafs loss.
