The New York Rangers held on by the skin of their teeth to a 4-0 lead, defeating the Seattle Kraken, 4-3 on Saturday. New York allowed three goals in the third period while the ice was completely tilted. The Blueshirts eked out a victory, and will need to play a complete 60 minutes to defeat Edmonton on Monday.

A few thoughts:
1) Joonas Korpisalo: out with an injury since basically the start of the season, Korpisalo was activated off injured reserve to start Saturday. James Reimer, who lasted 20 minutes with the team in his one appearance, was waived to make room. Dylan Garand, seeing yeoman’s work in net, got the night off. His likely reward is a start against the Oilers in Edmonton.
Korpisalo, who made 25 saves, was solid the first two periods. Good enough in the third, despite the Kraken completely dominating action. His side to side reflexes did not look that fast, especially on the third Seattle goal, scored by Vince Dunn. Korpisalo does give New York a viable option between the pipes, though Garand should remain the primary option.
2) Tye Kartye can say all he wants that he didn’t feel a sense of revenge in facing his old squad. But there likely was a sense of “I will show you what you gave up,” during the win. Kartye continued his hot start in the victory, scoring for the second straight game while extending his point streak to three.
“No, not at all, honestly. I couldn’t care less about that. I’m with the New York Rangers and I want to play well for the New York Rangers. That’s really not on my mind at all.”
A free agent after the season, Kartye has fit in nicely since New York claimed him last season. Strong on the forecheck, Kartye has shown more of an offensive touch than expected. I view him more as a third liner, rather than a second unit wing, where he is currently playing. But he has not looked out of place on that trio.
3) Pavel Dorofeyev: Hopefully, some of the panic and handwringing with Dorofeyev has dissipated. Goals in two straight, three of his last four, and four of his last six, have Dorofeyev up to six on the season. Patience is a wonderful thing, we fail to recognize that a player sometimes needs time to settle in or has been a bit snakebit, expecting immediate production. That looks to be the case here.
