For 35 minutes, a young Vancouver Canucks lineup hung tough against the Calgary Flames’ (mostly) NHL lineup. They even stood up to the Flames in a physical sense.  But once Joel Farabee scored on the power play, the Flames were able to put the game away, 3-1.

Adam Novotny had two great chances in the second; one missed the net. On the other, Dustin Wolf made the save. But he was also part of the draw confusion on. Matt Coronato’s  3-0 goal. There has been some discussion about the possibility of Novotny getting games with Abbotsford. The right thing to do for him is Peterborough in the OHL.

Aatu Raty impressed on Tuesday. Raty was solid on face-offs (12-for-16) two shots on goal, and drew a penalty in 12:55 of ice time. This was his second, and last, preseason game. He needed this kind of game to stick in the Canucks lineup.

I also liked Arshdeep Bains. He scored the Canucks loan goal. He worked well wth Raty and has had some chemistry with Braeden Cootes this preseason. We seem to know who Bains is as a hockey player. But I thought he deserved some credit.

Any way you cut it, it was a terrible game for the eyes.Willander Novotney and Cootes are the ones with mentioning so far.

Albeit pre-season, the last couple of games have been painful. The young kids give you some hope, still the bar is set low which is okay.

AHLers/prospects only basically so to be expected. Last 2 games will see the vets.

It also depends on who gets worse. Example, Flames are aging and on the way down and already considered near as bad as the Canucks. The future outlook presently for the Canucks is better. Who else falls over the next 2 seasons? It’s only upward for the Canucks eventually.

Without obtaining another 1st or early 2nd, after we pick with the 1st, SJ and Dallas are in control of where our next 2 picks will be in the 2nd round. That’s going to be a pretty long gap between 1st and our next pick…. they need to make this 1st a home run. Might not see top 3 again after that. Going to be harder to find star power in the draft.

Totally agree we are in the hands of how the Stars & Sharks do. Stars are aging & their division is getting better than they are so some hope there. SJ is on the rise in a shit division & don’t see them taking a step backwards. Not so sure come the ‘28 draft we will be much better. After that is when the rise might begin. All said it’s a long runway between now & the ‘27 draft to gain picks.

Given Demko cannot sneeze without getting injured our odds look good to be 32nd. Idc if 32nd 31st or 30th just comes down to the lottery luck like every year. The other effect is later picks in other rounds. Other side of the coin is all picks from other teams is hoping they all suck & improve our picks lol

Going to be a turtle race with Calgary for last I think. I think we win the race but it will be a little closer than people think.

Painfully obvious the AHL/prospects line up was more of an audition than anything else. I’m not in VHG it’s all total doom & gloom til the vets suit up the last 2 games. When the new 84 game season starts then we will see how systems & identity plays out. Expectations are very low & idc about them tbh I’ll be looking at how the team bonds & plays for each other. This rebuild is all about building & watch a fit hard working team show up every night. Nothing else matters other than the Dupont sweepstakes.

9 SOG all game? I get it, pre-season. It was another painful game to watch. I have to keep reminding myself we’re the worst team in the NHL.
