ParticipantAre you sure that they can do this?
In the NHL, Injured Reserve (IR) allows a team to fill a roster spot for a player out for at least seven days but doesn’t provide salary cap relief. Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) is for players out for at least 10 games and 24 days and provides the team with salary cap relief, allowing them to exceed the cap by the amount of the LTIR player’s salary

ParticipantI agree with you on the LTIR/IR rules. They can keep Weber and Brossoit on regular IR
Are you sure that they can do this?
I was not able to verify that for certain.September 18, 2025 at 3:01 pm #28286totem
ParticipantInjury updates. Brossoit looks like he is out for the year so probably will never play for CHI.
Good news, Spellacy and Pridham should be only out for a little while.
Ty Henry probably out for the season. Too bad because he has to be signed after this year or his rights are lost. Needed a good year at Erie to have a chance at a contract. CHI will probably have to look elsewhere for defense depth once the current logjam clears.

ParticipantI went down a rabbit hole w/ LTIR and regular IR rules.
If they are allowed to place Weber on IR (instead of LTIR) then his salary counts against the cap floor
but he does not use a roster spot. In that case the cap floor is not much of an issue for the Hawks.I agree with you on the LTIR/IR rules. They can keep Weber and Brossoit on regular IR, use their salaries toward the cap, and fill their roster spots. The concern about keeping above the cap floor is overblown.

ParticipantResponse to assman
We’ll see but what better way for at least Arty or KK to get better defensively when they are similar active players in the ozone. You want a dman to activate at the right time, if you got 2 guys that can do it paired together what a weapon they become in the ozone, this notion that they can’t be good defensively playing together is minimizing the dynamics of what can really become a really good NHL pairing.

ParticipantIf Grecz looks good (even ok+) in camp I wouldn’t be surprised if they slightly overpay him on a 1 year contract.
His contract money could help them stay above the floor. The unknown cap hit / roster spot right now depends on the status of Brossoit.

(but it’s the NHL so definitely possible)September 18, 2025 at 12:42 pm #28268Dan Maloneys left hook
ParticipantSo in my opinion
Vlasic Rinzel
Kaiser Murphy
DelMastro CrevierPossible Grecz
This way you can keep
Arty, Korch, Allan down on the farm working on their gameI’ve read several articles about having to keep a stay at home defenseman with Arty? I think that’s the path of least resistance take. He didn’t look that much different in the Kulvers game as he did when he played with the Blackhawks unless he shows me no thoughtless plays in the preseason they have to do everything as an org to develop the defensive side of the game and when and when not to activate. If they do this and he does learn which i think he will, having Rinzel and Arty on the right side controlling both ends of the ice for 45 to 50 minutes of the game is an incredible weapon for the future of this team.
I think they’re looking for 2K and Arty to develop at the NHL level. I think Allan gets traded?

I’d be willing to bet only one of Arty or KK get sent to Rockford. Can’t really pair them together responsibly and both need top pairing minutes for development. I’m leaning towards Arty getting the nod so he can continue his development with guys that are more experienced than him and also think Murphy needs to be bumped to 3rd pairing TOI in hopes he can stay healthy until the TDL.
