ParticipantFans will need to be patient on this one, cause this is clearly a seller market right now. Half the leagues wants a 2nd line centre with not much out there to play that role. Maybe a RFA could have been an option, but its getting more and more late in july now.
In a way, I am glad they have an obvious hole in the lineup.
If the Habs got a (somewhat) legitimate 2nd line center, then the expectation for this team would be unrealistic.
To be honest, I am more concerned about the penalty kill – we lost 2 of our best over the summer (including our best face off option)
Let them continue to grow, let guys like Hutson and Demidov (and maybe a few others, over the course of the season) get this season under their belt.
As I said, I am comfortable with Dach starting as the second line center…. I mean, we did not have one last year, yet still managed to get into the playoffs. If Dach (or someone else) can step up, then we are way ahead (with the other additions the team made).
Making the playoffs and winning a round in 25/26 would be a major accomplishment.
This is still a very young team and they have still things to figure out, as you do mention. There was no way they were about to give that kind of money to Dvorak, even if it was for a year.
At some point, guys like Beck deserve a spot on this team or a least a chance to make it. Pretty sure he would be a guy to try on the pk.
A lot of people seem to forget that Josh Anderson changed his role on this team to keep playing here. He is not a top 6 guy anymore but had a big role last season.
The same thing can happen with others guys like Dach, Newhook and others.
I like the moves for Bolduc and Dobson. Rookie season for Demidov next season. Reinbacher will be here at some point next season, if not from the very start. That guy was a top 5 pick not that long ago. And he plays on the right side.
Guys like Hage and Fowler are yet to come. And it looks like that russian 2nd round pick this summer was a steal. I like where this is going.
Oh and I love Suzuki. A fuuucking lot. People around the league need to notice at this point. I was behind that guy years ago. Still am.

Participantthe expectations will and should be higher for next year, but fans shouldn’t panic if they ever miss the playoffs, it doesn’t mean the rebuild is a complete disaster either.
I would not be entirely surprised if they miss the payoff this year, given they exceeded expectation last year, some guys had career years, and a few teams took an unexpected dive.
But they should be in that race all season long.
I think they make it.

Participant@ Pat: I agree with you on the Habs about the playoffs. I expect them to be in the mix all season long, but they could miss them. This is a very good division, even with Boston most likely to enter a rebuild.
I want them to make it of course, I will be a bit down if they dont make it, but the rebuild is still going on and they still have to work on being a top contender year after year. Look at the Rangers last season. Now thats an interesting situation. You dont want the GM to panic and start making trades left and right, even if a lot of people will point at the many moves the Panthers had to do. Thats not easy to repeat, I would think.

ugh, what a pain that was lol.
and now I’m trying to avoid upgrading to Windows 11, cuz it seems like the same sort of situation. it’s as though Microsoft always needs to throw in a shitty version in there once in a while…
