I don’t think they simply run it back. Danny knows this is still a bubble team if they do that. He’ll want to take the next step forward which is a more solid playoff team if not an actual contender to win the East yet.

That’s was I’m so intrigued by the idea of getting Carlson as a UFA. You just have to pay him. Of course, he has to like the offer too. Briere doesn’t seem like the kind of manager who’ll just shuffle deck chairs and make deals just for the sake of it. The Flyers have a couple big items on their wish list, which are pretty much the same wishes for every team in the league. What the Flyers have is young players who might grant those wishes. There’s always the chance they’ll grab a veteran depth guy or even sign back one of their own UFAs. But they might wait until a hole develops and move then.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they just run it back with basically the same roster for this upcoming season. You will have Martone for the full year and maybe Bonk and/or Jiricek replace someone in the top 6.

Looks likely unless an opportunity comes their way. Once they get all the RFAs signed, they have a full roster of NHL players with extras. Briere has shown a preference for filling needs internally. If you’re a Flyer today, you will get a fair shot at stepping up before they look around and see what’s out there. The 1C and another top pair D should be on the wish list but aren’t essential at this point. Intrigued by Carlson on D. Anyone moving a 1C is or should be rebuilding and will want a proven younger pro center back. Flyers don’t have that yet. Teams will keep an eye on Jett and the two Jacks. If all goes well, Jett pushes a PPG in LHV this year. If he’s closer to a .5 PPG, that’s very bad news. A lot can change in season too. Fully half the roster was different from opening night to the last playofIf game.

Bill. I agree the Nurse talk makes no sense. In fact, speaking of Edmonton, the Tippett to Edmonton talk makes no sense either as I don’t think Edmonton has anything we want that fits reality and makes sense. Edmonton doesnt have a first round pick until 2028, they have no young center prospects that move the needle and fit what the Flyers are trying to do.

What I hope they don’t do is overpay in a trade or FA for someone that doesn’t markedly improve the team for now and the future.

I forgot they are related. Still don’t think it would make sense.

Remember, Darnell Nurse is Donovan McNabb’s nephew. His potential acquisition could be interesting to the fan base. If the Flyers try to acquire him, Edmonton retains some of his salary.

It’s a convoluted picture but the Flyers will get Toronto’s first-round pick in either the 2027 or 2028 NHL Draft. Here’s the rundown.
