No, game 7 isnt good enough with this team.
Its deep in round 3 or 4 or its just anorher wasted year.
Im tired of the excuses and fans being happy with this team simply showing up for certain games. Its been 9 years, time to win several rounds. Enough with the 1st/2nd round participation ribbons. Beat a good team, every year its “tampas too good, bostons too good, Florida is too good”. Time for the leafs to be too good – Faksie

I think Fifty meant that we’d all take a game 7 against Florida in this series. The current champs. I don’t think he meant it was good enough or that if they lose he’s okay with it or that fans should be okay with it. Just that if at the start of the series someone guaranteed a game 7 and you never saw the other games, he’d take it which is a pretty good opportunity for the leafs to move forward.

Again, I think he wasn’t giving a participation ribbon for anything just talking about this series only.

I think the important parts the leafs should take away from last night were that they were able to play a close checking game, shut down Florida PP and all their offense.

We can shit on the leafs all we want but they have done a good job of shutting down their top guys for the most part this series.

That wasnt directed at fifty, just a vent in general.
Leafs played well last night, Woll was great from what I saw.
But they need to do it again…..and probably again a few more times (other series obviously).

As I’ve said before Marner and Matthews have a chance to change their narrative Sunday and beyond (if they make it).
Almost every year, some team beats the former champs…leafs need to be the team this year.

Agreed. But they have to do again. Leafs have been great in one offs, need consistency over more than one game.
    Go leafs go.

We are half way to this pollyanna comment aging well. I posted this during the period of angry dooming after the Game Three Bed-Shitting incident.

It looks bad, but this series isn’t over yet. Leafs could still win this and I will root for them until the end, win or lose.

If they win the next two and pull this off, then we’ll look back on these doomer comments and laugh about it… – PDO

Looking at game 7, know that we can eliminate the Stanly Cup Champions, on home ice. It’s why Berube pushed them so hard during the last week of the schedule. Getting home ice and having the ability to have last change is crucial. Keefe never understood this and rested players, down the stretch. It’s why we ended up with a game 7 in Boston last season. If we prevail, it will be a major step forward. To play Carolina with Home Ice would be an opportunity to make it to the finals. I’ll go out on a limb here and say Dallas will defeat Winnipeg and if so, the Leafs have Home Ice for the rest of the playoffs. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but the games will be closer and small variances like penalty killing and powerplays will become magnified. Just score one more goal than Florida, tomorrow night, and it’ll be go time!

Berube has a game 7 victory too. I think he is going to really help this team this year.

    1993.

First round against the Detroit Red Wings. Series tied 3-3 going into Game 7.

    And it goes to OT.

And then this happened and kicked off that deep run where Gilmour and Clark made memories and made me into a hockey fan for life.

    Let’s do it again.

Told this story on HB before…

Friend and I were driving home from Tampa. We were just outside of Atlanta, when we were searching for a radio station and got a “skip” signal for the Leaf game, about a minute later Borschevsky scored, and about 30 seconds after that, the signal was lost 🙂

Oh then you’re right. Sure they won last night but nothing changes if they lose (no matter how they lose in game 7). Sure I wouldn’t be “upset” at the game specifically if it was a 1 goal loss in 2nd OT. But it wouldn’t stop me from moving Marner, Firing Shanny, etc. Whatever other major changes need to be done.

Do you remember after the two losses to Ottawa you came and asked me “do I really think this team has the ability to go on a run?” I said yes and the reason you asked is because they were up 3 – 2 in the series but you were already making off season changes. Now they have the chance to put away the current champs on home ice.

It’s funny how leaf fans change on a whim. From thinking they are trash and can’t win a series against Ottawa to looking at home ice for the entire rest of the playoffs.

Game 7 is huge though. No doubt. Not easy. Not given to them but they have a “coin flip” of a chance to write a new story for themselves.

Right now, this is the best team that they’ve had in over 20 years. Next year, they’ll probably step back somewhat. The Defense will be the same, as will the goaltenders, but Patches will probably retire and Marner will move on because he’ll want too much. JT will be another year older and he’ll need a new contract, as will Knies. Not enough money to go around. They could retool by letting Marner and Rielly go, picking up assets via free agency, but the chemistry will change. Now is the time to take your shot at the Stanley Cup. Just score 1 more than Florida, tomorrow night and it opens up possibilities. Just know, only 6 teams are left that can win the Cup. In a couple of days, it’s down to 4.
