ParticipantDamn, I didnt get what I wanted for Christmas… a new GM.

ParticipantDrury has got to be fired soon… Right??? Right???
It will come down to whether or not they make the playoffs, however the problem is he just signed a multi-year extension in April… and the Rangers just hired his hand picked coach that hes probably been chasing since before they hired Laviolette.

ParticipantI really can’t stand the way this team is built and the coaching staff/GM.
Are we a veteran team 1 piece away from making a run?
Are we a young team with a deep prospect pool?
A team figuring it out with a ton of draft capital?
We’re none of the above. No direction, just a group of individuals put on the ice to sell tickets. Disgusting what this team has become.
I never really understood any of it. I was never a huge Mika fan. I never felt he had the IT factor to be a true #1 center. Panarin is a phenomenal player, Trouba was ok, but the retool vs the rebuild was the wrong move. Followed by a whole bunch of bad drafting and unlucky “busts” really burned us.
I dont remember which draft it was, 19 or 20, but I really wanted us to trade the pick down. I think it was 2020 because I really wanted us to try to find a way to get both top 5 picks from Ottawa for our 1st.

ParticipantHow to win a game.
Cuylle, Miller, Perreault
Panarin, Trocheck, LAF
Othmann, Laba, Zibanejad
Berard, Carrick, Rempeaecliptic
ParticipantDrury and anyone involved in player development followed by all tradable players need to go. Drury can’t survive another rebuild. He cheated on the first one and now we’re in a terrible spot. I’ll say this in his defense, Laf and kakko not working out probably is the nail in the coffin for this version of the team. I think every other GM would’ve taken those two players if they were in our spot so you can’t blame him for that. Development failed them and they’ve failed themselves. Everything else he’s done (or not done, I.e. getting a difference maker) is trash though
All of this is probably moot because the word is (and history would agree) that Dolan is not interested in a rebuild in earnest
Kakko has 4 points in 15 games with Seattle this season, so I cant say that he has progressed his game.
LAF, unfortunately, has succumbed to a team with one of the worst managed and developed teams in the NHL. in 5 years, hes had 4 different head coaches and 2 different GMs. Let this sink in… since 2020 we’ve had David Quinn, Gerard Gallant, Peter Lavoilette and Mike Sullivan as head coaches. They didnt have a captain, then they did, then they traded him away 2 years later. How is any team, let alone a young player, supposed to find development and synchronicity under those conditions?

ParticipantQuotes don’t work for me
“Along with Gabe, I wouldnt want to trade Cuylle (although he would probably get us a pretty decent haul)… and maybe Schneider. Might keep Morrow for PP purposes.”Cuylle is tradable. He’s been bad but still has good value. I’d be ok with him staying because of age and contract.
Schneider is a 2nd pairing d at best and if any team thinks he’s more than that we need to pull the trigger asap
I dont think Schneider is untradeable, I think hes good, Its kind of impossible to strip the team down to the bare bones, so I wouldnt force a trade involving him.. as you say cause of age and contract. But if theres a team out there that offers something along the lines of what KAndre got us (a 1st and a B prospect), Id have a hard time saying no at this point.

ParticipantMy biggest question is, what are they going to do with Panarin? We know Drury isnt a fan of his, Drury ripped Panarin after that ECF a few years ago, but if you dont sign him, it would look like they raised the white flag because there isnt another big FA player out there. Please I dont want to hear Mcdavid, he isnt coming here in 2 years, he wants to win a Cup, not hope to make the playoffs. So what to do with Panarin?
I say this with full transparency that I am wanting a full tear down/rebuild – any player should be on the table except Gabe. Panarin needs to be traded at the deadline no matter what – drury needs to find a way and take whatever he can get. resigning him for what he apparently wants is not worth it and will just be more of the same for this team.

ParticipantFox has full control for 2 more years. He’s not going anywhere for at least that long.
I know he would bring back assets, but I still want Panarin gone more. It has to happen by March. Top priority has to be talking him into waiving.Yea, this has to happen. It would likely only be with a cup contender, so preferably Id rather take a stud young prospect over a late 1st. Although considering the nature of this upcoming draft, it could be an option.

ParticipantAnother player the Rangers have failed to develop!!
Jed Ortmeyer, Director of Player Development since 2017.

ParticipantWell, they got Morrow, use him. Hes supposed to be an offensive minded Dman. Pair him With Gavrikov, leave everything else as is. We could feature Morrow, maybe he does something special and then maybe we can move him at the deadline to a team needing an offensive RD.
Quote button not working
Why trade a young defense men when they could start to build around someone?
Well, if they dont move Fox… we still have a logjam at RD between Fox, Schneider, Borgen and Morrow. I know Schneider has done well on LD, but I think it would be better to get a proper LD.

ParticipantNow things can get real interesting if the coaches make fun lineup choices

ParticipantWith Adam Fox out until the end of the month, if all continues to go south, not sure how you don’t sell. The only “saving” grace is that the Metro and East is bunched up, so if they are within striking distance, they may try and stay in the hunt. To me, that’s the scariest part of this, because based on what we have seen to date, a sell off would be wise. Anyone else missing JD and Gorton?
Last week at work, I was talking with a couple Rangers fans saying the firing of Gorton and JD was the biggest mistake this organization made.
I think the way things are playing out, a sell off might be a good thing, looking at the future.

ParticipantThis team just isnt looking good.
Same team, different year. No heart from the leaders in the top 6. Making Miller the captain is looking like it was a mistake. Personally, Id get rid of Panarin, Zib, Miller and maybe LAF. Start clean. They keep trying to salvage this top 6, its just not a winning core.
