Well, we played one good period (the 2nd) in that first game. The first period was rough and made worse by the weak penalty calls on Levshunov. The team still looked a bit disorganized in their own end, forwards late to get to coverage. We got burned for a goal on Grzelcyk being out of position, which is pretty much the book on him (or so I’ve been told).

While there were a couple bright spots, that was a sound beating the Knight kept close.

That’s going to happen for a while with a team this young.

Thanks Chunk, i think another key point is from what i hear is Blashill had a convo with Reichel and informed him of how he needs to play if he wants to get into the lineup. Is Reichel willing to accept that his form of floating around hockey is not going to help any team win?

I don’t think it really matters at all. If he doesn’t figure his crap out, he’s going to be a UFA and can try and get a gig somewhere else. The Hawks have so many guys that are about to push for an NHL spot. It’s all on him to make them play him. I don’t think he played that poorly in the preseason, but he didn’t stand out.

I think one of the most important things that Blashill has to maintain is that playing time and situations are a privilege. If someone is playing more responsible, they should get the time.

After the first period, they looked like a real hockey team. Obviously not the best, but lots of kids trying to get their footing in a reg season game. I thought most got better as the game went along.

Didn’t work last season. Can’t believe he’s still on this roster. Flip him with another guy elsewhere that also needs a change-of-scenery and let’s go. Shit or get off the pot.

Guessing you are talking about Dots post about Reichel?

He’s not in the way at all. He’s literally an extra. You don’t want one of the other kids sitting if they are up on the big squad. He’s the Crevier of the forwards. Are you going to force whatever guy you get back in trade into the lineup? What does that accomplish if he has the same issues as Reichel?

If someone offers something that KD wants for Reichel, he’ll get moved.

With the Greene emergency call up, we know who is first up. I’ve not seen anything on Slaggert or heard anything the entire preseason. Did he make the team?

Not exactly. Slaggs is a defensive forward in the bottom 6 and that’s what Greene will be so they called him up over Moore but just my opinion. Wondering if it means Foligno moves up to 3rd line wing and Greene centers line 4?

They had Dach as the 3LW in practice with Greene centering the 4th.

    Lukas Reichel = Cedric Benson

I had hoped that Greene and or Moore would make the team. With the Greene emergency call up, we know who is first up. I’ve not seen anything on Slaggert or heard anything the entire preseason. Did he make the team? Chunk, I think you’re expecting a lot expecting an improvement in the standings. KD is saying “I added vets and nothing happened. Now I’m going to try it this way.” Young defense, young goalies and a slow but steady matriculation of young talent. Time will tell but I expect to see a half dozen players from Rockford come up for a period this season. In the years to follow, our high draft choices in college and Juniors then following. It will also keep Danny’s cash budget down.

Yeah, I am expecting a lot, but they should be as well. This is year four and Bedard and Nazar have NHL experience. They have what are expected to be serviceable vets to go along with them. I’m all for development, but if they don’t start getting better results, they run the risk of turning into Buffalo.

Slaggert has a LBI, but they obviously aren’t being specific at all. I’m hoping he didn’t reaggravate his strained, but but we’ll have to wait and see.

Nice write-up Coach! My extra 2 cents:

While they are still young, I think we definitely need to see a notable improvement in the standings vs the last two years. At some point, the team needs to begin to gel together and prove they can battle out some wins when they need to, otherwise, you run the risk of having a bunch of good individuals instead of a team.

I think this is a pivotal year for KK. He needs to take that opportunity in RFD by the cojones and assert his game on the opponents. If he doesn’t he runs a real risk of getting lost in the wash. He got a year in the NHL and almost a full year in the AHL. He did look better to me this preseason, but there wasn’t enough of a difference from his previous play.

I think Bedard will certainly get his points, but I think Nazar has a chance at being the most reliable. He’s got a game that translates to any situation. I think after about 10-15 games, the Bedard/Donato/Burakovsky line will start to gel and be really dangerous.

I’m really happy that Kaiser stuck with this team. He’s gotten so steady and he seems to know how to play off of Lev really well (no small feat). For being a small guy, he holds his own at the blue line and near the crease pretty well.

Grzelcyk is Gus 2.0, don’t expect any defense from him.

He’s not. Gus has played 515 games and is -15 for his career. Grizzly has played 527 games and is +131. Also, Gus is a whore. 8 teams in 6 seasons = whore.

What does this even mean? Gus wants to be an NHL player. He’d be stupid not to take an offer to be one. You seem to be saying that he’s choosing to play for all these different teams on purpose.

So, Comcast just put the Marquee Network (Cubs) on their premium package. It is time to find a new cable company

With leagues and teams seeing how much money they can get by having these streaming services, it’s only going to get worse. I’m paying for the CHSN app, and that’s it. I’ve been using Hulu Live for about 7 years and I’m dumping that. They jacked it to about $95 per month after it started at about $45. I meed to finish setting things up, but T-Mobile has an offer where they include the basic levels of Netflix, AppleTV, and Hulu in their service. If it’s true, that’s all I’ll need by a long shot.

What will Rinzel or Lev get if they put up decent numbers the next two years?

Sportsnet was thinking Lev and Buium will be in the $10 Mil/season range

People were saying the same thing about KK for a bit, and he’ll be lucky to get $2M/yr on his next contract. Let’s let the season play out before getting too excited about what guys’ next contracts will be.

This is why any heavy lifting on bringing in new guys would have to be done by trade. Listening to what KD’s said in interviews and seeing how they are going about this year, I can only imagine that they really won’t be all that active on either front (FA or trades). It sounds like he wants to blend in as many of his picks as he can and see what they become. At this point I think we’ll all just have to wait and see.

At the end of this year, we’ll have a better idea of what Moore and Greene are, who rises to the top of the D-men, probably get a cup of coffee for Lardis, maybe Misiak, maybe Frondell, big long shot of Kantserov coming over. Assuming a relatively high pick in the 2026 draft as well, and all these other kids starting to matriculate up.

Unless most of them just fall on their face, why would KD backfill with more vets (you know, aside from Lafferty)?

    Frondell with a Michigan goal.

Beautiful!!! Now we have two guys that can do it in a game.

He had a nice quick shot to tie the game at 3-3 as well.

Reichel needs to get in a fight. Even if it’s somebody on his own team.

All the smoke is around him getting traded before the start of the regular season. There just doesn’t seem to be a spot for him. He’s not really good enough to play on a top 6 line and he doesn’t have the tools to really play bottom six.

Alex Vlasic is day to day with a lower-body injury and will be reevaluated in the coming days, per the team

Hopefully not the dreaded AA groin injury.

There’s a lot of speculation that he got cut with a skate blade. If not that, I’d say Knee/Ankle injury looking at the replay of when he got injured.

I’m interested to see if Toninato makes it through waivers.

31 years old, less than 200 career NHL games, and only 25 NHL games in the last 3 seasons screams
“makes it through waivers” but you never know for sure.

One of the scribes posted that he cleared and is going to RFD.
