Mangiapane, Emberson, a prospect and 2026 2nd rnd pick for McMann

Leafs need 1st round picks, not more projects.

Mangiapane is a cap dump and Emberson is the payment to take on that contract.The Leafs can do 1 yr with Mangiapane or buy him out, send him to the Marlies
This management team reminds me of a third world country. Slow to move and uncompetitive in a competitive market. Action is required before the Olympic break. One goalie not named Hildiby, should be moved. Woll should stay because he’s younger, so Stolarz should be good for a first. Edmonton, Vegas, Carolina and Montreal should be teams that could come calling sooner than later. Even Matthews should be dangled, but Nylander and his childish behavior needs to be extricated first. But knowing the Leafs, they’ll procrastinate and will be holding the bag at the trade deadline. One other thing that they could do is take on an LTIR contract from another team, giving them cap relief for a prospect or a draft pick.

if you do a double retention, then is has to be done 2 or 3 month in advance err something like that.
So if you trade for player A, the team can only retain like 50% of the player salary. You can longer include a 3rd team for retention unless it’s a few month prior.So the Leafs have placed Joshua and Tanev on to the LTIR. That’s 7M extra in potential cap space.

McMann to be moved would cost at least a minimum 2nd rnd pck and a propect. Perhaps you could squeaze a 1st out the Oilers.
I do agree they need to sell off some assets.So, looking at potential trading partners for the Leafs, Detroit seems like the perfect fit to extract draft capital in return for the Leafs veterans.
Top of the list will be OEL. It’s pretty obvious that OEL would love to be on a contender, at worst, a playoff team and Detroit is at worst a playoff team and at best a contender if they make upgrades. OEL probably had some sentimental pull towards Toronto given the legends Salming and Sundin. He may have the same pull to Detroit which had Lidstrom and many other Swedish legends of the 90s.
Detroit has a lot of cap space to fit OEL without salary coming back to the Leafs. But the Leafs could afford to take back Gustafsson at 2 AAV to fill the ice time left by OEL. Detroit has not got the offensive production they had hoped when they signed Gustavsson that OEL has clearly provided for a bad Leafs team on a relatively cheap contract. Gustafsson could be given ice time to rebuild value and traded in the future as he has been a deadline rental many times before.
I could see Detroit wanting not only OEL but also a RHD like Carlo. Detroit is said to be looking for a RHD and Carlo could fit their needs as he would not be used as a top pair D. Again, they have a lot of cap space to make it happen.
The Leafs might be able to get a pair of 1st round picks for OEL and Carlo from Detroit.
Other candidates that could be moved to Detroit would be McMann, Roy and Laughton. I could easily see Detroit paying a 1st or a prospect for any of them for an attempt at a playoff run. The same could be said for Montreal and now Buffalo. I would gladly trade all 3 of them to Detroit, Buffalo and Montreal for a 1st round pick each.
