ParticipantYup.
Mitch Marner is an elite puck distributor but he doesn’t create room – in fact he sort of causes lanes to get closed because defenders expect him to try and find a clean passing lane. Matthew Knies is on his way to becoming a top level space creator – he can use his physical size and strength to battle low which will often draw more than one defender to his vicinity. Matthews has shown his ability to get lost in the play – which all elite goal scorers do – he doesn’t need to be in the cross crease lane to get those passes; he’ll find a soft pocket. He has more in common with Brett Hull that way than he does with Ovechkin. If Maccelli can complete a pass – or even Domi – and Matthews is healthy again, they should be okay. They will miss Marner, but ideally not as much as some seem to think.
Pretty much what I’m thinking. Knies is so bloody big and powerful I won’t be shocked if the opposition needs to focus two guys on him routinely. That alone will create the space that Matthews and the other winger need. Will the other winger have Marner’s passing skill? No. Will he need it? I’m also thinking no.

ParticipantWhich blog are we using on this site? Lol
I get what you’re saying tho senstroll, I know Marner is a superstar passer but I honestly don’t think a healthy Matthews needs one either. Give him a powerhouse net crasher which he has in Knies and a decent top six passer who isn’t an all star and Auston will be just fine.

ParticipantNo, silly, it was already headed here before moving Reaves out.
This was punishment for convincing Marner that Vegas was nice*
*punishment for not convincing him earlier.
That and Reaves still lives in Vegas and now he’ll play them more.
Knock Marner out Reaves for using your name in the media!!! ????
Dozzer
ParticipantReaves dumped to SJ for Thrun.
Cup to Toronto now right?
Dozzer
ParticipantMarner in Vegas should work out beautifully

Participantlol
rage on loser. maybe take a break from internet angry reply guyI’m sincerely convinced he’s invested a lot of money into Marner on the Leafs crap.
It’s crashing in value hence the crying.
Seriously UG. You’re crying. Either move to the Knights with him or stick with the Leafs. Time to make your choice.

ParticipantNone of these fuckers pay the proper amount of taxes. Just ask Johnny and how he had to sue to keep all of his money.
Exactly, saying it was a signing bonus done in the US not Canada. He’s trying to sneak by his leafs signing as well lol.
Dozzer
ParticipantIt’s almost like he’s not fully committed to this relationship… err, message board.
I just wanna know where to post
*starts to cry a little, my gf asks me why, I tell her, she walks away*

ParticipantI read the Leafs may have a hand shake deal in place with Roslovic. The Leafs would like to move a body or two before bring him in to the team.
Don’t forget they have Robertson as well to deal with.Looked up the Roslovic rumour… 3-4 year handshake deal in place that’s waiting on Jarnkrok and Kampf to get moved.
He’s tied to Matthews so I’m choosing to believe I’m choosing to believe I’m choosing to believe I’m choosing to..
Just to get those two removed btw, the signing I don’t really care about lol
Dozzer
ParticipantOf course this is true….players arent concerned about their cap….for the most part.
And this is why I’m saying it’s only mattering to the star players at this point. You’re still 100% correct for the 98% remainder of the league.

ParticipantLike I said, I used the forbes tax calculator…I simply entered the salary, single person and selected area.
As previously mentioned, “not sure how accurate it is”Also, you have the exchange rate as well. the USD goes much further here……for now.
This is why I’m saying we’re finally hitting that point when players are starting to care. Marner wants $7 million take home. At $12 mill he gets that in Vegas where he wouldn’t in Toronto. Fans seem to believe players care more about their cap hit than their earnings for some reason, do you care more about what you cost your employer than what you earn?

ParticipantThe era doesnt really matter….there was still money to be had for the big boys…and no one was flocking to florida….they simply werent winning.
I already said its a factor…but its not “the” factor….no one would be signing for less to play for the panthers if they werent a winning franchise the past 3 years.
Winning is still the driver for most players. Winning, weather, taxes, anonymity, family.Mitch was offered $13.5….he wasnt staying for any amount imo, his mind was already made…his ego cant handle playing in Toronto.
The average nhl salary in 2003 was $1.7m
Now its about $3.4mI just ran a forbes tax calculator for a single person in florida and Ontario at a $12m salary
Florida take home was $7.6m after taxes
Ontario take home was $6.4m after taxesNot sure how accurate it is…but only about $1.2m difference.
What numbers are you using?
Florida: $12 x 0.63 = $7.56
Ontario: $12 x 0.4647 = $5.58
You might want to relearn the calculator.
Florida taxation: 37%
Ontario taxation: 53.53%Dozzer
ParticipantTrue, but I’m sure they’re also currently doing that, so any change to the CBA will still have a pretty serious impact on the tax gymnastics they’re able to do.
Meh, then they’ll just start doing synchronized swimming taxes
Dozzer
ParticipantYou have to wonder if this is going to make it harder for the Leafs to re-sign Matthews once his current contract is up. This new CBA will literally cost Matthews millions out of pocket.
Not as bad as I thought it would be like I mentioned. I’m sure a banker/investor/etc could play the game beautifully
