These 7:00 starts are going to kill me
The average NHL fan age is 49-50 years old. This crowd should be forced into wearing plaid and made to go to a concert full of grey haired musicians afterwards.
The idea of playing for the “hometown Leafs” is a Stanley Cup feeling of accomplishment in itself. Once these guys have done it for a year or two, that feeling fades and reality sets in.
The NMC is to guarantee they decide where they land. I don’t give a fuck what players say, at the end of the day, winning and money is usually what matters most. The old guys on this team have their money. They can fly “home” whenever the fuck they want the rest of the year. Tanev would rather win a Cup than ride out his last days playing on a shit team in Toronto. These guys signed here because they were grossly overpaid and had the thought they could win in Toronto. If Matthews is gone, that illusion of winning in Toronto disappears and the rats flee the ship. That includes Tavares and everybody else. If given a chance to join a contender and the Leafs are rebuilding, they will go. It’s just a matter of the Leafs deciding to look to the future.

Some guys will happily give up a cup to avoid living away from home. If you think every single hockey player’s priority is to win at least one cup I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. Their family comes first and they are men. Real men put their dreams aside for their families.
So stop thinking it’s a video game where winning comes first for everyone, because it doesn’t.
Anyways you’ll be happy about this, Cowan down to the second line because he can play physical to replace Marchenko and McKenna is finally up on that top line as Matthews’ winger 👍

Hoping the game against Calgary motivates them and doesn’t burden them, even solid teams lose games.

There is no way to fix it. The D can’t be fixed. It’s not gonna happen. The Leafs are out of assets and draft picks. They need to blow it up and rebuild. Matthews and Nylander would get us a huge return.
Best thing that could happen is Matthews asks for a trade and we start selling high on their top assets.
I get what you’re saying but I still think that won’t truly solve the backend. Guys don’t get NMCs just because of hockey reasons. Rielly doesn’t want to go anywhere because his wife is from London and hey live full time in Toronto. Tanev probably doesn’t want to finish his career anywhere else either since he’s from Toronto. So they could start blowing the team up but they’d still have to wait things out with guys like them because the NMC has nothing to do with the team and just them not wanting to move.
Hockey is hockey but to a player it’s still just a job and their personal lives matter more so a blow up would not be easy.
You also have to remember, Bob is also older and the Leafs D is not only old, but it’s slow and it’s overall bad at keeping shots away. Compared to the way the Panthers the before that the Blue Jackets played D, Bob is going to be expected to do more work than he’s ever had to do before. It’s a tall order.
Oh I get it, and the only way to fix it is to move salary out in a trade to get the cap space and I don’t see that happening. So here’s hoping the old boys find a final season somehow
Actually I’m giving Bobrovsky some rope right now, look it up, he’s notoriously known for being bad in October. This is nothing new for him. Now if this continues through November that will be something different.
The logic is they signed him for the playoffs but if they don’t collect as many points as possible against shit teams, there won’t be playoffs given the division they play in.
The issue with Bob right now seems he’s just a touch too deep and/or a touch off his timing which means those “perfect” shots go in instead of hitting him in the shoulders.
Leafs also allow too many shots against which only makes things worse for struggling goalies.
The Leafs fired a lot of staff but kept their goalie coach, Sanford and I think that was a mistake. They need an upgrade in that department. He has been there since 2022 and their goaltending hasn’t been consistent in that time period.
As I said I get the concerns but I’m simply willing to give him the rope til November because he’s not that far off.
