I’m guessing bring on Reimer is because they’re not sure if they want Hildeby stepping up to the NHL to do nothing but play backup. They wouldn’t give him Woll’s roll so he wouldn’t get the same amount of starts.
Basically without Woll the Leafs will truly lean on Stolarz and it won’t be a 50/50 type setup like last year, not until Woll is back anyways. So having someone like Reimer as the backup would make more sense since you don’t want Hildeby just sitting there hardly playing.

with 3 pre-season games left, kinda late to bring him in on a PTO

I would not mind him as a backup if Woll is going to be gone for awhile, well, I wouldn’t mind so long he can still play decently at his age. We already know he can handle Toronto ????
So it’s looking like Florida might not be as much of a threat this year making the Atlantic a little more open. Barkov is having surgery on his knee today after hurting it yesterday and he might be done for the year and Tkachuk is gone for the first few weeks after the surgery he already had himself.
I’ll never hope for medical pain on anyone, hell, I just had a vagus nerve stimulator installed into my body last Friday, so I wish those two the best and that they recover quickly and well.

Funerals are usually a lot quicker than this seems like it is going to be. Somebody important to him is probably sick with a serious illness. Same thing happened to Aaron Rodgers which significantly delayed his signing with the Steelers this summer.
Leafs 1st unit PP looked horrid vs. the Senators. Matthews missed a breakaway to seal the game. Leafs lost in OT. Classic Leafs. Good thing these games don’t matter but it wasn’t pretty.

As for the game I get what you’re saying, but like you’ve mentioned it’s preseason so it’s sloppy time lol. The main thing in game 1 for a lot of guys is to hammer out some shots on net so at least they got over 30. But yeah, here’s hoping they clean up at a decent pace as well but it’s not my concern quite yet.
