I’ve known Cowan’s aunt since highschool, used to hang out in her place then, so I’m hoping that Brydges boy makes the leafs this year. Tbh I sincerely don’t mind the idea of him taking Marner’s spot, is he the same player? No, but he’ll fit Berube’s style a bit better now that his skating has improved notably. That and if anyone tries to fuck with that rookie the 230lb Knies will just eat them alive lol

Ken Dryden had the stones to at least deal with the Maple Leaf Gardens sex scandal case. He made sure that the perverts coercing the teenagers with free hockey tickets, then sexually assaulting them, came to light. For that, he has my utmost respect.
He was absolutely, 100%, a good man who was never afraid to do the right thing. A fully agree with you on this. He has my respect as well.

Anyways to all the Marner lovers out there please keep this in mind. Playing in Toronto is about more than talent. You need the social capability to handle it as well. Both in positive and negative manners you will be bombarded by the media, the fanbase, by haters, by lovers, by attention seekers, by people who think they know more than the people who run the team, etc etc etc… and quite frankly Marner is simply too much of a whiner to handle it. Yes, he’s a very good player, but no, he’s not a strong enough individual to handle playing for The Leafs and it always showed. Ffs I remember that he could barely handle playing for The Knights here in London, and after The Leafs drafted him I always hoped he’d grow out of it, and if he did grow a bit, it was not far enough to handle playing in Toronto. So as I’ve said, best of luck to him in his new location.
Another dumbass take. Berube loved Marner. If anybody didn’t fit the mold for Berube, it was Tavares and Nylander, both huge defensive liabilities who suck at back checking and can’t be trusted defensively nor kill penalties. Berube distrusted Marner so much that Marner led the team in playoff ice time among all forwards at 5v5, PK, PP and total ice time.
I don’t give a shit about what you say, he lead ice time because he was used on the PK because Berube’s didn’t have the significant depth guys he needed. Truth is Berube likes north/south hockey with physical play and Marner is neither.
I think Marner wants closure and closure with the media.

One deserves premium top dollar one doesn’t. One has earned it, one hasn’t when it counts.
None of use would care what Marner is making if he put up the Draisaitl stats and got us to 2 cup finals whom 99% of leafs nation as never seen this team get to. Our heroes we’ve watched got to the 3rd round what.. 3 times in ours lives 0 finals appearances.
Its my opinion, which isnt worth a pair of nuts on a mouse, but we wouldn’t be bickering cap issues of our top players if they performed like the top players on teams winning cups or going deep consistently.
Part of me is wondering as well if Marner sees himself as the next C in Vegas… I have no reason why, it’s just a curiousity.
A desirable place to live with his family while leading a team versus being just the A in a viscous and most intense hockey crazed city. I can understand his choice but I’m glad it’s made and that he is gone, that guy is not a leaf.
And I should add real quick that yes I think Draisaitl is worth it in every way shape and form and I’m glad he chose a Canadian team to continue playing on and that yes he’s way the fuck better than Marner.

He only makes $1 million a year a year and gets the rest as a July 1st bonus while in Germany at a 45% taxation. Saves him a notable amount of money.
As a Canadian hockey lover how do you not see the difference between him and Marchand, Bennett, Nate Mac, crosby. McDavid lol. One of these things are not like the other. Those guys didn’t look to their peers on the team but led the charge themselves. Marner is an insecure little bitch that cries when the going gets tough instead of leading the charge.
Im not here sticking up for Nylander and Matthews or defending them but I do find it absurd anyone in their right mind would defend marner either. Especially when hes the Canadian boy who quit on his Canadian team

Americans can get almost all of their contract as a summer bonus and pay very little taxation. I know that’s getting reduced to only 60% but that will still make a notable difference.
Look at Marner. He got $12 million. I know I’m being general here but that means he will get $6 million of that in Nevada at 37% taxation giving him a return of $3.78 million. In order to get that in Ontario he would have to make $8.135 million at home.
Basically he’s after a $7 million take home, and to get that playing in Canada he’d have to be making around $15 million a year (they’re paid by game so it wouldn’t be all the way to $16+).
People need to recognize there is a massive taxation difference and there’s a reason the teams in the lowest taxation levels are thriving, Florida, TB, Vegas, Nashville should have done better, etc. a lot of Canadian want to deny this but we are finally hitting this level, the $10+ million dollar guys are paying attention to this. It’s why Matthews only gets paid league minimum and gets the rest of his money while living in Arizona on July 1st. That way he only pays 39.5% taxation and not 53.53%. I’m curious to see how Knies’ deal will be laid out as well.

Nothing all that special about him. He’s a Canadian hockey player lover and he cannot stand that leafs are not built around players from Canada. Nylander is a waste of space, Knies and Matthews are only going to be half the players they were without Marner blah blah blah.
Then he’ll ramble on about how the league needs to adjust how the cap works. That guy can’t accept the league will never adjust the cap for Canadian teams, the priority is development in the US. The market in Canada works just fine. It’s a sport yes, but when it comes to the $ it’s primarily a business. Therefore the league’s primary goal is to develop the American teams into businesses that earn like the Canadian teams do.
Get used to not seeing as many Canadian stars on Canadian teams moving forward. For instance, if McDavid leaves the Oilers it won’t be to come to Toronto, that’s such an amusing fantasy to hear from people lol.
