The player the Habs traded was Emil Heineman – 23 year old Sweedish winger who is 6’2 and 200 lbs and scored 10 goals last year. He could grow into a nice player for the Islanders.

Like I said this will an interesting one to see how each team faired in this trade over the years.

If the Leafs had traded 2 x top 20 1st round pics & that player for Dobson with the extension you just know many Leaf fans and for sure non-leaf fans would be screaming it was an overpayment! I actually think this one is a bit of a wash right now and both teams feel like they won.

The habs cupboards are pretty darn full, they are now entering win now mode.
Their top 4 d are now Guhle/Dobson and MAtheson/Hutson….thats pretty darn good…..three of which are really young.
Sure the swedish winger could turn into something more than a 10 goal scorer and who knows what happens to those mid first rounders in a draft that apparently after the 8th pick is pretty meh (so Ive read).
But for now, huge win for the habs.
I hate it.
I hate that I have to type something positive about those sacks of poop.

Leafs getting Marchand?!?!?!? Seems like an overpay, but…

I heard 4 x $9m….absolutely horrible imo. Marchand played great in Florida because he was on the 3rd line with other good players, facing lesser comp. Here he will be 2nd or top line facing stiffer comp.
Also, they moved away from marner’s 10.9 or soon to be 13 to spend 9m of it on a 36 year old? WTF.

You really think this signing puts the Habs in a better place than the Leafs? I don’t, not right now anyway.

As always time will tell.

I dont yet know whats going the other way to the Islanders…but ya…this is a great add.
Still so early (not even July 1st)…but Im Shania’ing……the leafs dont impress me much.
Cant wait to listen to the media splurge all over Montreal all season…..and stupid florida.
