If the Leafs pick falls in the top 5, Boston’s pick will be unprotected in 2027.
For me, I’d rather them have a pick in the teens.who knows.. What if they win the draft lottery like the Islandeer did last year.
That would be sweet.For them to be better next year, they will all need to be healthy and will need to get a new coach, a 2nd line center, top 6 winger and a top 4 dman. Tall order.
My hope is they get a top 5 pick this year and improve enough that the 2027 pick is not in the top 13.But ya, winning the lottery would be great….exactly what the leafs need. But with the leafs luck, they would finish with a top 5 pick but then the lottery pushed them to 6th overall.
Also I read that the Leafs are seeing what is available for Knies. Seeing if there is a package that would blow them away.
OEL has been good for the leafs, but Carlson is the better player. OEL has term and good contract.
IF he is moved, I would expect the picks coming back would fall inbetween what Carlson and weegar got.
Late 1st, and a 4th….or a couple of 2nds and ok prospect.However, the leafs will then have to turn around in the summer and try and find a replacement for OEL….which will cost them more than OEL’s cap.
But move out everyone, keep Berube on until the end of the year and go for that top 5 pick.

I only came to see how everyone is faring.
I havent watched many games since they suck but for what it is worth, I think it should be a retool type of year. Roy for a 1st is nice. Hopefully get back some ready to play guys like a Minten lol. Sucks that happened! Shanny trying to save his job and helps overpay lol.
I dont think these issue are purely on Marner leaving. Lots of issues in total. Lots of goalie injuries, no Tanev, bit of Matthews injury.
Bad year. I dont think this is the total decline. I think this is a good wake up call for the core guys.They spread the cap out on the big 4, didnt work. Regular season matters cause if you dont do well, no playoffs. I rather the past 9 years than the previous 9 before it.
Matthews is too good to give up on. Washington, Colorado, even Pitts didnt give up on their generational talent and they eventually won. Pitts might even make the playoffs TWO years after people thought Sid and Co were all washed up when Dubas took over.
Ah well. Tomorrow will be fun in a different way.
Tre made the minten trade, not Shanny though….either way, it was a bad trade.
MAtthews is definitely no Crosby….not even close and he’s no Ovechkin and I wouldnt consider matthews generational talent.
No one thought Sid was washed up, just that the pens werent a good team around him…and they werent…and really arent. Just having a good season.
Yikes, Parayko declined to waive to go to Buffalo, (can’t blame him). Sucks for Buffalo fans. Might as well grab OEL for slightly more;-)

what Brad Treliving has built is simply not good enough. That he’s being lapped by a Pittsburgh retool built off the scrap heap by the guy he replaced is an extremely bad look
we didnt know how good (bad) we had it. It could be a long time before we see a Leafs team that has a run like the Last 10 seasons. just massively wasted opportunity

Well I didnt have Roy has a possible trade target for the leafs to move out, but Tre actually got a 2027 1st rounder and the Avs lowest 5th round pick (2026)

No one was gonna pay the price Tre paid for those two players last season.I’d expect 2nd’s, 3rd’s and 4th’s coming back this deadline…maybe one 1st.

Leafs arent trading Matthews or Nylander.
If they move OEL, they could get a 1st for him.
McMann, Laughton, Domi, Macielli…are probably going to get 2nd’s, 3rd’s and 4th’s….unless someone is really desperate and stupid. (Maybe Tre is trading with himself?)OK, it’s time to get the Tank out of mothballs and start losing. Time to get near the bottom and get a top end draft pick. It’s obvious that the bed has been stripped and the shitty sheets are in the wash. Anyone that wants this team to succeed must get on the tank and get some prospects into the cupboard. The Leafs missed the wave, the change in hockey. Teams that acquired young talent are now riding the wave to the top. Watching the Habs, Sens, Wings and others, it’s not the veterans that get the job done, it’s youth with mobile defensemen that win in today’s NHL. The Leafs started to build a team to beat Florida. The problem with that, Florida too is on the decline. Both teams could miss the playoffs. The answer is asset management and rebuild your draft capital. It’s time for Rielly, Domi, McMann, OEL and Stolarz to move on and draft picks coming back. The only untouchables include Matthews, Nylander, Woll and Hildiby. Now is not the time to be a buyer. Get the assets, fire the GM and Coach, start with a new Coaching staff and use the acquired Cap Space to get into free agency and rebuild. My friends, you can argue back and forth and disagree, but the retool must start this week, and not the end of the season.
The leafs dont have their 1st round picks for the next two years cause Tre stupidly thought carlo and a 4th liner would be worth moving those along with prospects (1 really good one – that I did not want moved) out for. So getting high end prospects by bottoming out wont work.
But agreed on they gotta fill up the cupboards, gotta move out McMann, Laughton, Macelli, Domi and get some 2nd’s, 3rd’s. Maybe OEL for a 1st.

So glad I’ve havent wasted much if any time on watching the leafs (highlights only once in a while), just a sad team.
Even the past 2 years, the team was difficult to watch at times (although last reg season was entertaining)Im sure Tre will get nothing much for McMann, Laughton, Domi and Macelli…but they need to be moved out.

Get a new GM
Get a new coachRepeat the same results.
The decades a failure and incompetence continues.
