No pressure? Trouba looked like a parking cone against the Panthers in the ECF and most other nights. A captain who lost his room. He signed an $8M deal with the Sharks. They also traded for Darnell Nurse and signed Libor Hijek. Yeah, Mike Grier is the GM we should be comparing Drury to LOL. And using that same logic…someone traded for Patterson the year before the Rangers did. So obviously he is worth more than what people seem to think.

Kakko is not good. Period end of story. He went to the Kraken, and nothing changed. He doesn’t get PP time because he doesn’t deserve it. Not because “he never had a chance here.” He is a 40 point player. Nothing wrong with it, but let’s not act like he is God’s gift to the NHL.

Kakko and Trouba had zero value. Maybe negative value. They were both terrible and NYR fans couldnt wait to drive them to the airport.

“Trocheck is on one of the best contracts in the entire league and top 5 faceoff guy with a solid 2 way game that is one of the best on the PK.” Other than the salary, you’re describing a third liner. Again, if Drury paid a first, a former first, and a top 4 D man for a 32 year old who is good on draws, people would lose their minds. And rightfully so.

It is agreed that the Nemeth deal wasn’t good. It is what it is though at this point. Don’t think its so egregious that it needs to be brought up all the time. Does Drury getting a first and another pick for Lundqvist get brought up as a great move over and over again? That guy stinks and we made out like bandits. Getting a 2nd and 3rd for Borgen was solid too IMO. Recoup some of those picks that were traded away for Nemeth.

Context behind last seasons finish matters. Fox & Igor were hurt for a huge part of last season. They didn’t have their top goal scorer for half their season which they will now have a replacement in Doro. And yeah, if the team is bad and there’s no point in keeping Patterson, he can likely be moved for good value to a contender at the TDL. If Kreider can fetch a first in your eyes, so can Patterson. Patterson has been traded twice for first round picks, Kreider hasn’t.

There’s a right time to get a 25 year old nearly 40 goal scorer?? You want to talk about a dumb take. This organization isn’t going to just mail in a season before it starts. It’s the New York Rangers, and they already tried the rebuild. They want to show their fans & players that they are committed to competing. Not go into a season with no goal scorer, 20M+ in cap space, and essentially admitting they’re tanking.

You are arguing that the Rangers should have gotten a ’24 first, an additional first, Durzi, and a third for a 32 year old coming off a 50 point season?? Imagine if Drury traded for someone like that and gave up that package. You would be up in arms.

I think its unrealistic to expect every single trade to be a home run win. The trade for Trocheck is fair value. And Panarin had a full NMC, so the return was always going to be limited. It’s easy to play Monday morning quarterback. If we are going to harp on every single trade that didnt work out, we also have to give credit to all the solid trades. Trading for Doro, the Vatrano & Copp moves were great at the time, getting a 1st and a 4th for Nils Lundqvist who is/was ass was a great move and is hardly spoken of.

JT Miller has had a 100+ point season and a 99 point season within the last 5 years. I’d rather take that over Nesbitt who hasnt played a single NHL game at this time despite your bias against JT.

Also, no one said we would recoup a first in a few years by trading Patterson? You’re making things up and saying dumb argument when no one mentioned that. Also, the Canucks traded a first for Petterson in 2025, so Drury isn’t the only one who thinks that’s his value.

You know what’s funny about the Nemeth trade (that was 4 years ago and the team was a contender at the time)? What harm did it do us? Oh no, we didnt get to select Max Psenicka (one of the picks used). Context is important, and I think most GM’s would be willing to give up 2 non first round picks to add depth to a contending team. I’ll agree that Nemeth was awful and didn’t add anything of value, but thats a different story lol.

We don’t have to change each others opinions on Drury, but I just don’t think its as bad as its made out to be. The Rangers are ranked middle of the pack in prospects (16th) while also being ranked 6th in average age (https://www.eliteprospects.com/league/nhl/teams-physical-stats). We have some great young talent on this team already that should be fun to watch develop. And plenty knocking on the door like Smits, Fortescue, Emery, Rooberick, Beaudoin, Greentree, Spence. Could it be better? Sure….but it could also be worse.

A bit early to say if Kreider will fetch a first or not. If he is having a great year, maybe? Far from certain.

“They’re just prospects”, but you are also mad that Drury is trading picks which are just that, for proven players? Our D was a disaster last year. He addressed that. The new 2nd pair + hopefully a full year of Fox should result in a big improvement.

Did Drury show you his hand in the Doro trade? I didn’t see 1 person linking him to the NYR. And I thought that was a home run trade especially when you look at some other trades (like McTavish).

I thought the Trocheck trade was fair value, and from what I have read it seems we made out better by taking Greentree over the actual 1st we may have been able to get from LA if we didnt get him. He’s been incredible in the OHL

Overall, I thought Drury did a decent job this offseason and I am willing to give this team a chance before writing them off as non playoff contenders. I’ve also heard rumors that Drury is targeting another forward. Wonder who it could be

I agree that not every trade has resulted in the best return. But to say we didn’t get any first round picks back in all of those trades is a bit misleading IMO. Liam Greentree & Cole Beaudoin are recent first round picks. So yes we didnt select them, but I am excited for both and think they deepen our prospect pool.

It sucks we dealt some future first round picks. Felt a bit like the Sather days lol. I do think this team is much more competitive than last year, though. I like Durzi & Petterson for our second pair and I think having two strong puck moving D men will be noticeable relatively quickly. I also think injuries really hurt them last year. A full year of Fox + Igor, and I think we have a damn good shot at competing for a playoff spot

It’s unfortunate this place isn’t catching on for some reason. I know it has it’s flaws…hopefully they can be fixed soon.

Even though there was a lot of disagreements, I really loved reading Jan’s blogs and the viewpoints from all of the regulars.

That was a great come back win last night. Loved the third period. Definitely something to build off of.

I think Brodzinski has to stay in the lineup. He brings speed, and he has good offensive ability for a bottom 6 player.

I missed the game last night. How did they look?

And is this where we are posting going forward?

The few issues about this site are the forum/articles (like meltingplastic said), NYR articles get posted on the NYR page by multiple authors, and sometimes it’s hard to determine which blog is the most recent that everyone is commenting on. We also seem to have 80% less people than we had on the HB boards….but I am assuming that will increase with time.

NYR winless at home…SJS winless…somethings gotta give tonight!

While I agree that Perrault & Berard need to be up here playing over those two, I disagree with the last part. I think Sullivan has done a good job so far with the teams structure of play and overall team defense. Underlying numbers are strong. Pucks arent going in right now, but I think that will change. It’s way to early to say things like the season is going to be a disaster IMO. Remind me….where were the NYR 6 games into last season?

I am worried about Mika’s confidence, though.
