Castonguay was in attendance for the Canadiens vs Predators game a couple of days ago.
Podz at one point in the draft year was ranked #3 but dropped when he signed in Russia for 3 year. No doubt he had a rough beginning but Canucks did very little to develop him or anyone else aside from Karlsson properly.They have been harsh on the draft development.Two more players that they messed up on are Chatfield and Forsling but I give them a pass seeing Forsling was a late draft pick and Chat was not drafted.
Canucks since 2010 have been a now team like the Leafs and never put much thought into the future. RJ and the Twins seem to be on the right track, Time will tell.
Forsling was drafted June 2014 traded Jan 2015. One of the worst trades the Canucks ever made, especially when a supposed Super Scout (Benning) traded him. Benning & John Weisbrod literally didn’t have a clue how to run a hockey team. Rutherford & Allvin (aside from Quit Hughes) same thing. So here we are again with another management team, what could possibly go wrong?
What separates Podkolzin from a lot of players is he’s a relentless hard worker who was always willing to learn. That wasn’t good enough for Rick Tocchet. I still don’t think he should have been drafted 10th OA bit thats water under the bridge. Another classic indicator of how dysfunctional the scouting staff and management was.
As far as the issue of foot speed there isn’t a lot of it on Canucks aside from a couple of players. The good thing is you have two of the top brass that when they were drafted at 2 and 3 know all about foot speed and what it takes to adapt.
True, Sasson is a decent skater. Apparently VAN is interested in Zary who also isn’t a great skater.

There will be lots of disappointing games. As long as they are learning curves.
Agreed. They’re certainly learning quicker than Calgary who started rebuilding a couple of years ago!
