Rossi’s gonna score 60 points this year and Petey’s gonna score 80, ruining our chances at a first overall pick because Aquilini will get a massive chub and think the Canucks are ready to compete for the playoff cash.
Rossi 60 points fair. EP will be an easy player to displace.
I would hope that the goal for this team would be to accumulate another 1st round pick this season at minimum.
I hope they do because they traded away their own 2nd to Chicago for the cap dump that was Ilya Mikheyev. So if they finish last, they gave up the 33rd in that trade. Idiots.
They have the Blue Jackets 2nd which will probably be a mid round. If they dont add another 1st or early 2nd, it’s a pretty big gap between early picks for a rebuilding team…
The 2027 2nd is actually San Jose’s. Ideally another 1st & 2nd would be ideal, not easy to do especially with rookie management. I heard the potential return for Debrusk for example is underwhelming. It will be tough to add high picks.
I would say Rossi has a better chance of “staying healthy” than EP40.
I hope he’s in shape and he starts out hot offensively, if he puts up good numbers by Christmas the Canucks can do the old “pump & dump” that sausage boy loves so much.

Rossi is a halfling and will be traded this season or next. Don’t get too attached to him.
There is an arguement to made that anyone under 6′ is a subhuman. They can however still contribute as jockeys, midget wrestlers, and circus entertainers.
For starters the Pens lucked out drafting 2 generational players in Lemieux & Crosby. The Hawks were horrible forever & drafted Kane. The Av’s got MacKinnon. The Oilers 4 1oa’s & diddly squat for it. The Sabres 3 1oa’s & more squat.
You win cups from the top on down something the Canucks have struggled with for decades. The ‘82 cup run was magical showing how a team that goes through walls can prove pundits wrong til they ran into the dynasty Islanders. ‘94 was the best 7 game NHL series in NHL history. My bias is showing lol. Superboss Pat Quinn did turn it around for a lil while. Later the Naslund trade gave us a great shot at a cup til he was injured. ‘11 was one of the greatest seasons by an NHL team that blew it.
Here we are back to square 1 on a true rebuild & there is nothing to do but enjoy the journey not knowing where it will lead.
What a bunch of rubbish. Pens, Av’s, Islanders all had/have quality 1C’s, which helped them win cups. You build from the goal out but you still need good centers. You don’t know FA about winning because you’re a Canucks fan. Some things never change, but keep on dreaming pal!
Fair enough, there was also Trevor Linden who put up good numbers back in the day before Keenan & Messier ran him out of town. So that gives you a total of two 1C’s developed by Vancouver in 50+ years, not good enough. Hopefully CM & Cootes excel in the new system, they both seem to have good character.
Yeah, it’s been really dismal regarding getting a star first line center, however, they haven’t really put themselves in a position to do that because they won’t bottom out AND they draft so poorly. You can win a Cup many ways but historically speaking, teams who build through the middle of the ice win…a lot!
Linden & Sedin were both top 3 picks, so the odds of getting a 1C is obviously better there. The (experts) out there already have given Cootes & CM a 2nd/3rd line ceiling which is a joke. What we do know is the Canucks will stink again this season and will more than likely pick in the 3 OA slot again. Put a premium on high character players. If these kids care and work hard losing is just part of the process.
History tell us the Canucks can’t draft/develop a 1C. Wait and poach Celebrini ond/or Bedard in 5 years.
I just don’t think it’s that simplistic, also, they drafted Henrik Sedin. Whether people like him or not, he was a #1 center. Do you know how many times the Canucks have drafted top three in the entry draft? NINE times in 56 seasons, and four of those were in their first four seasons. So, since 1974 they’ve drafted five times in the top three of the first round, there’s a reason they’ve never won the Stanley Cup, it’s because across multiple ownership and management groups they refuse to rebuild a championship team through the draft.
Between 2003 and 2006, four drafts, the Penguins had four top three picks and they won three Stanley Cups because of it. Sure they got lucky in 2005 but their last place finish in 2004 gave them the best odds to win the 2005 draft and take Crosby. San Jose just had three drafts in the top two, Celebrini, Misa & Stenberg, they also took Will Smith 4th overall in 2023. Again, luck was involved but so was being bad as a team. Until the Canucks embrace being bad and catch some luck, nothing is going to change.

We are in the era of assets accumulation never can have enough. Habs are a great team to copy. SJ has some scary good draftees.
Team identity wise I like the Canes & Habs. Size wise VGK & TB & Washington. Speed & heart & top mgmt building the culture. Abby be the proving grounds & beginning for prospects to hit the NHL at full speed. MM installing systems. Players in top condition & strength going through walls for each other.
Yes, the Canucks are in the early, very early, stages of asset accumulation, there’s probably three more years of drafting before they start to see some cumulative results. The worst thing they could ever do is deviate from the program/path they’re on. If it happens organically, fine, but don’t push it. Malhotra looks to be a fine second line center guy with his skill-set, Cootes is more of a Mike Peca third line guy for me, and that’s perfectly fine, but they still need a superstar center if they plan on winning a Stanley Cup sometime in the future.
