Flyers fans and the like love carrying the water for this shit franchise and justifying all they do.

Carl-Bunting-Acciari are key depth pieces for this team. They are def needed seeing the flyers are cup contenders.
Forget about the spot he was originally drafted. Jiricek is on his 3rd NHL organization already for a reason. He can’t play in the NHL. Even in the AHL, he’s a defensive liability. Waive him!!!!! If he’s claimed, he’s claimed. If he could benefit from more AHL time (I’m skeptical), great. But if Simon Benoit is beating out out merit for a top six spot, and Wild shipped you out, and the Blue Jackets shipped you out, it’s a lot of trouble to go to for someone who probably will never amount to much.
Jiricek was fine in the first after a good game Thursday. First goal was mostly Kolosov’s turnover but DJ didn’t react to pick up his guy quickly enough. Wicked giveaway on 2nd goal and was in the box for the 3rd and that was enough. Bad play and bad breaks piled up on him in the 2nd. Netter to get it all out in one PS game. The Blue Jackets got a first second third and fourth-round draft pick for him. The Flyers gave up nothing in Brink. Keep an NHL goalie behind him. He’ll play through it.

It’s great to have some size and physicality on defense along with some good puck movers, but it’s too early to see who makes the cut. I’m looking forward to following Soko’s development. I’m not expecting him to become another Pronger or Chara at 6’7″, but having a tall rangy Defenseman that can shut things down would be a nice luxury.
Chara at 18, even 20 or 21, skated like a baby giraffe and was not good with the puck. Pronger had all the tools but some off ice issues early in his career. What will Sokolovskii (or Amico or Gill) become I don’t know. But big and athletic is a risk worth taking for a D man.
Hope 1 pans out and not another Ian Forbes, bill Armstrong, Chris zarb, maggeral, or Shane Kenny. All big guys for the that time

Bill, what are your thoughts on Dom Luszczyszyn and Scott Wheeler of the Athletic saying the Flyers contention window is already closed? Seems a bit harsh, but their reasoning echoes what many in the fan base have been saying about the lack of high end talent, especially down the middle.
I think the combo of being a relatively young team with a deep farm system, having cap space and a good stockpile of upcoming picks puts them closer to the middle.
Deep farm system with so many potential bottom 6 forward and booth pair d. If they even pan out. Having a lot of picks isn’t all that great when u waste them.
For a team that has an undersized blue-line, a major leap forward by Jiricek would be highly welcome.
A good reason to be optimistic is the Flyers got every Dman they used last year to play at least adequately. Credit to Tocchet and Reirden there.
They have the market cornered on bottom pair d prospects. Nothing resembling a top pair guy and only one potential 2nd pair. I am very optimistic
If DJ does or shows nothing and bonk excels then waive DJ. He is a bust at this point.
They also have Benoit in their top 6 to start. They like him.
Don’t see bonk or DJ getting a real legit shot to be in the top 6 unless Benoit plays himself out of it.

One good thing I can say about the Flyers last year is every Dman who played, and they used 12 different guys, played pretty decently. Even the guys who dressed in hold the fort situations due to injury didn’t kill them out there. Some were obviously better than others but they were all at least OK. Gives me some optimism about working in Jiricek, Bonk and Benoit. I think they’ll all be at least all right.
