The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in OT Saturday night at the Canada Life Centre. Connor Hellebuyck got the win for the Jets on what was Country Night at the arena.

Milestone for Morrissey

Josh Morrissey made his return to the Jets line-up after being injured in the very first game for Team Canada at the Winter Olympics. Quite the return it was, as Morrissey got the game winning goal in overtime for the Jets. Also, with his two points on the night, Morrissey is now the Jets all-time leader in points among defencemen. Great accomplishment for Morrissey. He is currently without a doubt, the Jets #1 defenceman.

Goal #30 for Scheifele

Mark Scheifele scored his team leading 30th goal of the season when he tied the game at 1, late in the 2nd period. It is the 5th time in his career Scheifele has hit the 30-goal mark. He has reached 40 goals only once previously which was 3 seasons ago. With 78 points through 62 games, Scheifele is also on pace for his first 100-point season ever. Hopefully he gets there.

New faces in Jets lineup

The Jets trade deadline acquisitions Isak Rosen and Jacob Bryson both made their debuts with the team for this game. Let’s see if either of them can get some traction and consistency in the line-up going forward.

The big picture

The Jets record is now 4-0-2 since the Olympic break ended. They sit 5 points out of the lower wildcard spot for the playoffs and three teams sit between them and the Seattle Kraken for that last playoff spot. With exactly 20 games remaining, it still seems very unlikely that the Jets will reach the post-season this year. However, judging by their play recently, for better or worse, the team is by no means ready to throw in the towel just yet. They are back in action Tuesday night when they continue their season long 8-game homestand against the surprising Pacific Division leading Anaheim Ducks.
