Leafs Prospect Update – 25 Draftees (Pt 1)

Throughout the season, we will check in on the Toronto Maple Leafs prospects to see how they are progressing. The 2024 Draft in Las Vegas was another where the Leafs expended some of their draft capital to make a run at the Stanley Cup.

Here is how the top half of the players selected in the 2025 are doing so far this season:

Tinus Luc Koblar –  RW (64th overall) – Leksands IF(SHL)

With the final pick in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft, the Leafs selected Norwegian forward Koblar, who played his minor hockey in his native country, but headed to Sweden in 2023 to play at the junior level with Leksands. The 6’3”, 190 lb forward had 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) in 43 games, and four goals in seven playoff games in his draft year and played five games at the Under-18s and Division 1A Under-20s for Norway.

This season, after a brief stint at the junior level, Koblar has played all season with Leksands in the SHL as an 18-year-old, and has 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists in 37 games).

Tyler Hopkins – C (86th overall) – Guelph Storm (OHL)

The 18-year-old Campbellville, ON native had 51 points (20 goals, 31 assists) in 67 games in his second OHL season with the Frontenacs. The 6’1”, 181 lb. center is described by Elite Prospects as someone with “a low and stable skating posture, combined with physical abilities, which enables Hopkins to win battles for possession.”

After playing the first half of the season with the Frontenacs, Hopkins was traded to Guelph just after Christmas. In 48 games between the two clubs, he has 38 points (16 goals, 22 assists).

Will Belle – RW (137th overall) – Notre Dame (NCAA)

The Excelsior, MN native is a product of the US National Development Program, who is an impressive physical specimen at 6’3”, 219 lbs., but someone who is a work in progress in other aspects of his game. The 19-year-old winger had 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 28 games and compiled 116 penalty minutes at various levels last season. In his freshman season at Notre Dame, Belle has three assists in 27 games.
