The 2026 NHL Draft Lottery took place on Tuesday night. The Winnipeg Jets with pick eighth overall. Now that the Jets management know their draft position, all eyes are on Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff to re-tool/reload the roster for the 2026-2027 NHL season. If the Jets cannot
make-up significant ground in the competitive Central division, the loyal core group of players may not want to stick around on a mediocre team for much longer. The Jets used up their mulligan this season.

Recent Draft history: 8th overall picks the last 10 years

2025: Jake O’ Brien (C)
2024: Berkly Catton (C)
2023: Ryan Leonard (RW)
2022: Marco Kasper (C)
2021: Brandt Clarke (D)
2020: Jack Quinn (RW)
2019: Philip Broberg (D)
2018: Adam Boqvist (D)
2017: Casey Mittelstadt (C)

Looking at this list above, none of these players are superstar names as of yet. In the coming days, we will look at some of the players that may be available for the Jets to select at eighth overall. It is also possible that the Jets may trade the eighth overall pick if they can trade for a
player that can help the team in both the short-term and long-term. In most cases, however, that means keeping the selection.
