The Utah Mammoth beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Sunday. Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz each recorded two points. Dylan Guenther picked up his fifth goal of the season off a nice pass from JJ Peterka, who stole the puck to create the play. It would end up being the game winner.
With the win, the Mammoth remain undeafeated at home in the Delta Center. They now have a 3-0-0 home record. The upcoming game on Tuesday night against divisional rivals, the Colorado Avalanche will be a big test to improve to 4-0-0 at home. The Avalanche are 5-0-1 to start the season and sit atop the Central Division with 11 points. However, don’t look now, but with their current winning streak, the Mammoth have climbed into third place with eight points.
Mammoth Stars Heating up
After a slow start with just one assist in his first four games of the season, Keller has registered six points in the last two games. He now has seven points in six games. Surprisingly, Schmaltz has only gone one game without a point and is leading the Mammoth with nine points in six games. Guenther (5), JJ Peterka (4), and Logan Cooley (3) round out the top five in team scoring. Goaltender Karel Vejmelka is playing very well in net right now. He has a 3-1-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .912 SV% in four games.
I think the team needs to get more from JJ Peterka and they defenitely need to see more from Cooley. After 25 goals and 65 points last season, the Mammoth are counting on him to put up a ton of points. Early predictions were 30 goals and 75 points. Hopefully, he’ll get going and catch fire soon. Peterka was brought in to provide more offence, so fans are watching him closely. The important thing to remember is that it’s still early in the season, and there is still plenty of time to get things going.
