The Oilers Lost a Valuable Game

The Edmonton Oilers wasted a chance to bury the Vegas Golden Knights. A win on Saturday would have put Vegas five points behind them. Instead, with the Anaheim Ducks’ loss to the Calgary Flames, the Oilers are tied with the Ducks at 87 points. Vegas is nipping at their feet with 86 points. The trio has formed a tight pack atop the Pacific Division. There are five games remaining for each.

The Division winner will play the Utah Mammoth, who hold the top Wildcard spot in the west. The other two will face each other in the first round of the NHL playoffs. It was clearly a missed opportunity for Edmonton. Evan Bouchard scored the lone goal for the Oilers in the 5-1 loss.

The Oilers had won five straight games, securing their spot in the postseason. Now it’s a battle to see who their opponent will be. They’d won their previous five meetings with Vegas, and if you throw in a playoff series, Edmonton had beaten its toughest divisional rival in nine of the past 10 meetings.

Oilers Fan Goes into Labour

Something amazing happened at Rogers Place on Saturday night, and no, it wasn’t anything that happened on the ice. During the course of the Pacific divisional matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights, news broke that a woman inside the arena had gone into labour.

The news was delivered on the broadcast by legendary Hockey Night in Canada interviewer Scott Oake, who delivered the message as only he can.

“There’s a baby being born on the 7th floor of Rogers Place as we speak, “said Oake on the HNIC broadcast. “Someone is going to have a great story to tell.”

In true Scott Oake fashion, the legendary broadcaster suggested that perhaps the mother could join him on his After-Hours segment. Something that would have produced some hilarious results.

“It would be nice to have the mother join us on After Hours to describe what happened, but that could be a bit much,” said Oake.

Next up for the Oilers is a match against their potential first-round opponent, the Utah Mammoth, on Tuesday night.
