Apologies for not writing this weekend and for today’s abbreviated blog. It’s Flyers Charity Classic Weekend, concluding today with the annual Golf Tournament from Dupont Country Club in Wilmington. From 8:30 a.m. EDT to 10:00 a.m., we are doing a live dual edition of Flyers Daily and Snow the Goalie. Special guests Brad Marsh, Mark Howe, Adam Hall and others will join us.

Last night, Jason and I recorded the regular Monday with Meltzer edition of Flyers Daily. We recorded shortly before Game 6 of the Cup Final. The main topic: building a Cup winner in today’s NHL. We also discussed the likelihood of other prominent players trying to take the Dylan Larkin route to leverage their no-movement clauses into forcing a trade with a top Cup contender.

Team Toyota Draft Spotlight: William Håkansson

Red pennant banner with the word TEAM and a Toyota logo in a white square at the right.

In Thursday’s Team Toyota Draft Spotlight, we have looked at USHL center Jack Hextall, BU center Tynan Lawrence, Swedish blueliner Malte Gustafsson, QMJHL center/winger Maddox Dagenais of the Quebec Remparts, incoming BU center Caleb Malhotra, and Swedish defenseman: William Håkansson.

Today, is a two-for-one: twin brothers Liam and Markus Ruck of the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers.

Markus, a playmaking center, racked up 87 assists among his 108 points. Liam, who is slightly higher ranked, is a winger. Liam scored 45 goals and 104 points. The brothers are of comparable size (listed at 6-foot-0 and around 175 round). They turned 18 on February 21. Liam is ranked 20th among North American skaters by Central Scouting. Markus is 23d. Craig Button has Liam 10th and Markus 16th on his final “Craig’s List”.

Of the two, Liam is notes for his anticipation, finisharound the net, forechecking tenacity, and potential to kill penalties There’s more question about Markus’s ceiling if separated from his twin brother. However, both have middle-six upside. While it seems that twin brothers often end up as NHL teammates (either right out of the Draft or within a year or two of turning pro), there’s no guarantee that an NHL team orchestrates a way to take both Ruck brothers.
